Hi all... Just got a new Monaco at the Fort Myers RV Show and taking the first trip with it to Texas. was wodering if anyone can recommend some good places in the state that are worth checking out. Thanks... oh, by the way, Im new to this forum. looks like people here are nice, warm and friendly. looking forward to chatting and exchanging messages and ideas. Ron Davis

Hi, Ron. There are lots of good places worth checking out here in Texas. Perhaps if you gave us some idea of your interests, we could provide more specific ideas. Here are just a few of the thousands of possibilities:
1. San Antonio - the Alamo, the Riverwalk and lots of history. Big open air markets.
2. Granbury - small, quaint little town. We like staying at Dinosaur Valley State Park, one of the smaller and more secluded places but most requested parks in the State.
3. Fredricksburg, New Braunfels - German heritage, museums, unique shopping.
4. Palo Duro Canyon - great environment (scary drive to the canyon floor), lots of wildlife.
5. South Padre Island - seaside resort, Gulf access to fishing

Some of your basic decisions are cities versus country, populations versus seclusion, water sports or prairies. When they say Texas is "a whole 'nother country", they aren't kidding and you could be checking out things here for years.

Like he said, "Texas is a whole 'nother country". How about some hints on where you would like to visit. For a point of reference it is close to 900 miles across the state, side to side or top to bottom.

With all of the Texas Boomers, you will get lots of suggestions.

thanks a lot. The Alamo is definitely a place I want to check out. so much history there. we also love the open air markets. what other types of activity are found around the San Antonio area? Also.. any good steak house recommendations? we love good rib eyes

Coming through Houston, the best place we have found is Taste of Texas at I-10 and Sam Houston Toll Road. Great stakes and a killer prime rib.

You have to post pics of your new Monaco soon. Which one did you get?
