Texas Newbie
Hi, I just joined today, and thought I'd tell ya'll a little about why I'm here. I have been in vans, virtually all my life(I rode home from my birth, in a Chevy conversion.) But I digress, my dad has had a 95 ford econoline, since it was brand new, and now we're thinking about upgrading. Ergo, I have been looking at the class B motorhomes, I'm just a little lost. I was originally thinking about a Roadtrek, but then I saw the price, and changed gears real fast. I'd like to get something that would eventually get me to all of the national parks, and the state parks along the way. So anyway, what other class B manufacturers could ya'll recomend? There will probably be 2-3 people travelling, at any one time. Also, do any of them have ventilation systems for smokers, other than the windows? I only ask, b/c there is only one smoker in the family.

To be honest, I've never owned one completely, I've only shared the title, however, I still love the idea of living out of one. I think the VW Kombi, is what first got me interested in this . Naturally, now I'm looking at something with more room in it. Other than the benifits listed here: The Many Benefits Of A Class B Motorhome, what other plusses, does a class B have over a class A, or C?

Only 2 pluses comes to mind- fuel mileage and you can park that unit in any parking spot.

Hi Hippyman
When I first saw your screen name I thought it said HippieVan and I had a terrible 60's flashback
Just kid'in
Before I joined this forum I was thinking about a Class B, then Class C, and wound up with a Class A. Take your time and you will find the RV of your dreams.

Thats ironic as hell, the whole reason I found this forum was b/c I was looking for info on VW campers . There is something that I just thought about a couple of days ago, do class B's have slide outs? And how different is it to drive a class C, than a class B?

Class C's are generally bigger then Class B's. Within the last 8 years or so there are a few different Class B's with 1 or 2 pop outs, usually one on each side. I doubt there is much difference between the 2, but Class B's should be lighter, shorter and easier to park.

Excuse my ignorance, but do u mean lighter as in, less wind resistant? One thing I'm mildly concerned about is fighting the winds over the rockies, with an extended roof.

Im' no expert, but I will tell you what I think. The larger Class B's seem to be more aerodynamic. The construction of the coach is more flush with the cab. If you are ok with less room and are able to travel light a Class B might be what you're looking for. Most Class C's tend to be more bulky, heavier and roomier. If you are looking for better gas mileage then a Class C, look for a Class B that is light and has a smaller engine.
