The NG and his first RV
G'Morning,
So I bought this RV the other day...
Yeah, that sounds like the start of an awful joke of some sort.
Hello, all. I'm Merlyn Graves, from Denver. Recently the proud (and somewhat worried) owner of a 1982 Apollo 3500db. I'll be taking delivery of the rig next week, and moving into it as a primary residence later that day.
As you might imagine from an '82 model, it needs a hundred little "tinker" level fixes, tweaks and adjustments... but for the age and what I paid for it, the thing seems (to my woefully ignorant eyes) to be in very decent shape.
This being my first RV, it's probably safe to assume I'll be asking a few (or possibly more than a few) dumb questions. Being a "hobby" grade mechanic, I might even ask a few intelligent questions. Hope springs eternal. Please be gentle- it's my first time.

That is a very nice looking coach. From the pictures it looks to have been well maintained. Does not matter whether you buy new or used they all will require care and attention.
Do you plan to full time in Colorado? One of the downsides to full timing in any RV is the humidity. A dehumidifier can help reduce moisture issues in the walls, etc.

Mr. Dewald: Thanks for the tip! I hadn't considered a de-humidifier, but I'll be installing one ASAP. Yep, I'm planning to full time in it for the foreseeable future.
Firebug5: I haven't had a chance to drive it farther than around the property where it's currently parked yet... but the seller tells me the engine was lightly massaged when it was rebuilt 15K miles ago (which, based on the shiny new Holly 4 barrel and slightly loping idle I'm inclined to believe) and that he had absolutely no problems holding 65mph in the foothills. I'll know for sure come spring, when I make my first road trip in it.

Nice looking rig, And I see you already have two of the most important tools.
1: Air compressor for airing up that which needs airing up
2: Clorox wipes for wiping up the drips when you slice yourself.

Merlyn, She's beautiful! Sometimes you walk inside them and you just know. Must have been what happened to you. You will definitely learn a lot here so don't be afraid to ask. Great group of people who love to help. In vintage RV forum there is a thread called "total rebuild". Many of us are following it because it is absolutely fascinating. Terry bought an old 5th wheel and is completely redoing it. He may have some great info for you. Several others on there who could undoubtebly help too.
