This is all a bit overwhelming!

We just bought a 1998 National Dolphin. I stumbled on this site when someone posted about finding a supplier for replacing the decals with the original design, dolphins and all, and I had Googled for that information. Then we thought this would be a good place to get advice, so here we are.
We are both retired, and I am disabled. I've been afraid to travel because some motels are not as handicap accessible as they should be, and the unknown is daunting for me. We've been looking at class A's on craigslist for months, and finally found one that, with a few, changes and additions, should work for us.
It probably won't be ready to use until spring. Friends are detailing the inside for us, and my husband is getting the oxidation off the outside, replacing plastic covers on the roof, and other odd jobs. When he goes out to work on it he says, "I'm going out to play." He's always loved restoring things.

You have come to the right place for information. Be sure to supply all the information you can about your coach, location and what the problem is when you have a question.

How do you eat an elephant?

Hi Randi D,

The title of your post "This is all a bit overwhelming!" reminds me of the old joke about how you eat an elephant. One bite at a time. of course.

I think you'll find this to be a friendly forum, populated by friendly people who have already experienced just about any RV'ing challenge you can imagine and are happy to help you cut the elephant into bite sized morsels.

Good luck.

Take care,

I like your husband's attitude, "going out to play". You both should go far in your RV life. Good Luck.

Welcome to the forum and the RV lifestyle.

I don't know what your handicap is but a motorhome might give you back some freedom. Where getting around in a smaller vehicle can be limiting, the MH size may give you the space to travel more easily. There are many RV's rigged out for handicapped people. Wheelchair lifts, wider hallways, lower cabinets, anything can be changed to help with whatever your handicap is.

When your husband goes out to "play" go with him and see if you can help with the deoxidizing on the lower areas. I deoxidized our MH and it was quite a job but I loved it! I am the female in this marriage so even us girls can do this.

I think the two of you are going to have a lot of fun with your rig. Give it a try and enjoy what may open up to be a blessing in many ways.

Love the sunshine and warmer weather!

Welcome to the party! We're right there with you, we just bought a 1999 Tradewinds ourselves about a month ago. I too have been "playing" and loving it.

Keep us all posted on your progress and have fun.
