There are plenty of former boaters here (including me). It seems some people weren't spending enough or their disposable income on boats and decided to switch to RVs.

Welcome.

Some terms learned in boating and what they are in your new hobby

boondocking = dropping the hook
Walmart/rest area parking = picking up a mooring
full hookup = slip
30/50 amp service = shore power
ded reckoning = not using the RV GPS
current drift correction = cross wind on a high bridge
DW = first mate/nagrivator
camp host = harbor master
S&B (sticks and bricks) = home port house

Welcome to the Forum. After 10 years sailing in a 3 foot sailboat in the Bahamas and Florida Waters we now cruise the southern states for the last 5 years in a 36 DP. Wonderful way to pass the winter. Good Luck in your travels.

Indeed, lots of us former boaters here. I think we have a distinct advantage over total newbies because we already have a handle on the various systems that boats and RVs share. There are differences, for sure, but I found the transition very easy. I especially like that I able to use gravity to assist now when I'm pumping out the black/gray tanks, and when changing the oil. I never liked using pumps to suck out those kinds of liquids!

Welcome, from another x-boater. I've "dropped the hook" in many places, in the Keys and off the coast in Central Fla. I still have my 28' cabin cruiser, but now I am an RV'er an love it!

Boat: (bō-t). noun - A hole in the water surrounded by wood into which one pours money.

RV: short for Recreational Vehicle. noun - a rolling box on wheels into which one pours money.

Different name, same results.
