Everytime I come to these forums and navigate from topic to topic, I keep getting a small popup at the top of the page that says:
"This website wants to install the following add-on: "Adobe Flash Player" from Adobe Systems, Inc."
I don't know why these forums need this add-on since I seem to be able to see all the posts just fine. I am loath to put any Adobe software on my computer because of security issues. I no longer use Adobe Reader because of this issues and, in fact, have even deleted it from my computer.
So why does this site need Adobe Flash Player? And, if it IS needed, is there some other alternative from a different company?

Posts and member attached images don't require Flash, but some forum sponsor content may, as well as other stuff in the right hand column. Without Flash you may see some irregularities with content... but I think most site features should still function.
You can read more about Flash here Adobe Flash - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Read about Rich Internet Applications on that page if you're interested, as well as as it is increasingly common.

Linda,
The vulnerabilities have been identified and upgrades have been issued that in "most" cases mitigate the vulnerability. You can also set your browser to not open PDF documents automatically, but require you to click on a button when one is trying to open. That way, you know if you are trying to download/open a PDF document.
No one should open any material that they do not recognize as being asked for. I have been using Adobe products for 20 years and have never had a problem. I do keep my anti-virus program updated.

I never click on any advertising either here or at any other website, so don't see any need for Adobe Flash. Is there some way to prevent that little notice from popping up? It's not a really big deal, it's just annoying. Oh, and this just started recently...like within the last week or so, so something has changed here.

It's possible that something has changed on your system. Perhaps a software update or update to your security protocol?

Microsoft had 14 updates last night when I got home. Now I am having a similar problem that LindaH has. Every time I navigate from forum to forum I get a warning bar at the top of the screen that says
iRV2 Forums
"Internet Explorer has blocked this site from down loading files to your computer"
When I click on the bar to down load the file I get a box that says
Name - gzip_detect.php
Type - unknown file type 221 bytes
From - www.facebook.com
This appears to be coming through or from iRV2.com. This is annoying and I am not sure how to handle it. Any advice or help would be appreciated.
Don

This morning everything is OK. The problem is gone. Thanks to who ever fixed the problem.

Perhaps. I did have updates just recently for both AVG and Windows, so maybe one of those is causing the popup. As I said, it's not a major deal, just annoying.
