Admin Help- Safari Locking Up

For the past 2-3 days, I've been having significant issues with Safari on my Mac locking up when trying to use IRV2 forums. I've managed to persist long enough on a few occasions to read posts and this morning actually make a new post. But I've locked up many more times than I've been able to do anything. (Hoping I can manage to get this posted!)

I have not had this issue on any other website, including other RV forum sites I use.

Has this been an issue reported by anyone else? It's a pretty significant issue when I can't access posts.

Thanks.

Sorry you’re experiencing this. I use Apple products and haven’t experienced this. Try clearing history and website data in the Safari. Settings>Safari > scroll down and select clear history and website data.
Hope this helps.

I have had issues with the posting editor locking while composing responses. It has been better lately. I used a word processer to write with and cut and copied to the editor.

Mac user with Safari. I have not experienced issues while using Safari. Clifftall’s advice is a good place to start.

Similar problem as the OP's but with Windows 10 and the Microsoft Edge browser. Edge has worked fine with IRV2 for a long time but it's been giving me trouble the last couple of days. Earlier today, i was getting "long running script" errors. Tonight, I don't get past the first click before getting locked up. Edge is working fine on other websites. Seems something here at IRV2 has changed, maybe something common that's affecting Safari and Edge.

Using Chrome now and it's working fine. But, i would rather get Edge to working again if possible.

Some browsers, especially Safari, do not like long wait times to build the HTML...that is what "running scripts" means.

But since iRV2 uses third party advertising, it is the "the nature of the beast".

Because iRV2 is free to most members and all guests, the ads cannot go away.
Members can turn off the "right bar."
And anyone can hit the refresh button if the page locks.

Best luck

I've been using Edge for a couple of years now without issue. The long running script error has just reared its ugly head in the last few days. Is it because there are more ads now?

Just tried again with Edge a few minutes ago and was able to log in. Got to the "thank you Mudfrog for logging in" page fine. Looked good for a moment but then the next page locked up with the long running script error.

Posted this with Chrome. I don't usually allow cookies to be set with Chrome so it's a pain switching them on just to use IRV2. Would really like to find a solution to go back to using Edge.

Not sure how you can browse with a sign-on at any website without allowing cookies. That is how your computer is allowed to browse without logging on each different page.

And please select "Remember Me" at log-in to keep the log-in set as you browse.

The slow-to-load ads seem to ebb and flow. They are mostly from AdChoice. The ads are not selected by the iRV2 ownership. See more about AdChoice at their website:

Best luck

I use Edge to go directly to websites that I trust. I leave cookies enabled because I don't use it to surf or do anything else on the web. Agree with you about the ebb and flow. Using Edge now, clicked through a few pages and am not having troubles right this minute.

I feel it's the multitude of flashy ads that are causing this but since Chrome seems to work ok, I wonder if there is anything I can do to make Edge more accommodating and accepting of the ads? I've looked in settings, tried repairing, then resetting, but still have the intermittent issue.

Anyway, thank you for replying!

Don't want to jinx myself but,, have been using the forums for about 45 minutes this morning with Edge without problem. Something seems to have changed, not sure what, but all's good right now.

Firefox on an old Core 2 Duo running Win10 Pro.

Today everything loads slow. Yesterday was faster.

I use NoScript and Ghostery to limit tracking scripts and cookies (no 3rd party cookies) along with Firefox's privacy features.

A quick comment about Chrome - it's spyware. Really. Not stealing your passwords or banking info, but tracking everything you view, click on, etc and sending that back to Google.

Off topic a bit but I use 3 different browsers. Chrome is for general, non important surfing. I figure Google is tracking, even with cookies disabled, but that's ok for the things I'm doing with it.

Update

after lots of frustration, I installed Chrome and started using it for a couple of days. Then I forgot to go to Chrome before IRV2 a couple of days ago, and now everything seems to be fine when using Safari. Hopefully it was just a short term glitch.
