Question Earliest post vs last post

I've noticed for some reason that when I open a new thread, I am taken to the last post in that thread, even if the thread has several hundred responses. I'm still trying to find my way around here, and want to begin at the beginning in most threads I open. I have my options set to show the oldest post first, but it doesn't seem to matter.
I do have this issue on other vbulletin forums, but not all of them. Browser is Firefox and Safari on either a Gates-O'-Matic or Mac.
Any ideas? I've looked in the support section back to the beginning of February, with no ideas found.

tmh462...
Are you clicking on the little turquoise circle in the right column? That will ALWAYS take you to the last post. You need to click on the thread name in the left column to start at the beginning of the thread. (Do not click on the member name..that will take you to the member profile!)
Does this help...or do I need to email a screen shot of what I mean?

Let me know if you still have a problem.

In addition, if you click on the little "down arrow" just to the left of the thread name, you will be taken to the first unread post since your last visit.

Question Tell me more about the little down arrow

Dirk,

On that little down arrow, I don't always see it. Even if I haven't read any posts in a thread, it isn't always there. Is the only thing that triggers that arrow having an unread post in a thread?

For example, I've never read any of the posts in the Truck Conversions, MDT's & HDT's Forums, yet the only ones I see with arrows are threads that are in BOLD at the top of a Forum. I've not read any of the other posts in that Forum, but they aren't bold & don't have the arrow. This carries across all Forums for me, whether I've read posts in them or not. Only the BOLD threads at the top of a Forum have the arrows.

My understanding is that every title in bold will have an arrow indicating you have never looked at any posts or there are new posts since your last look at that thread.

I believe the threads that you have never looked at and are not in bold and do not have an arrow are older than March 2009 when we switched to the forum software.

Is that the case?

Nope, Dirk. For example, I've also never been in the Truck Camper Forum & at least the first dozen+ posts there are newer than 3/09. For me, they aren't bold & don't have the arrows.

P.S. Don't misunderstand me not visiting some of the Forums. Those I haven't been in are just ones I don't have experience with or a connection to, so I don't visit them. Not that they aren't interesting to those who DO frequent them.

It's a puzzle.

May I throw another wrench in the mix (aside from the still unsolved down arrow mystery)?...

If I'm on the main Forums page & click on the title of the post that's listed in the Last Post column, it always takes me to the last post of that discussion, not the first post (hence the name of the column "?"). I, then, scroll up to read from the beginning if it's a topic I haven't been previously following.

However, if I click on the Forum title & the page opens with all the topics within that Forum, THEN click on a topic title there, it takes me to the first post.

So, for me, I'm concluding that if I want to read a topic from it's start, I don't click on it from the main Forums page/Last Post column.
