I did not get an email to respond to!!

When I go in to edit my profile it says I did not respond to the email to confirm my email address. I never got such an email and I just checked again to see if I missed it. I did get one confirming my joining but no where on it did it say reply to this etc. I did access the site from that email and it still did not update the notice on my profile. Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?
