Inserting links

Seems like I used to be able to insert a link into a reply and also be able to name the link so that the entire web address wouldn't be displayed. Has this option gone away or was it never on this website?

Are you using the link icon at the top of the reply window when you create your link?

Dave,

Also, you need to highlight the words that you want to name the link before clicking the icon that Rusty mentioned.

Let's walk through creating and naming a link using the link icon :

1. Highlight the URL of the destination site (i.e., where the link is going to take you) and COPY it onto your clipboard by right-clicking the mouse and selecting the Copy function.

2. Go back to the iRV2.com reply window where you're creating your post.

3. Give the link the name you want to use. Example: I'm going to create a link to the Fox News homepage HERE (HERE is going to be my link name).

4. Using your mouse, left click and highlight your desired link name (HERE in the example above).

5. Click on the link icon on the toolbar above the text area.

6. PASTE your destination's URL into the URL box provided. Note that http: defaults into the box and is highlighted - hit Delete to remove this if the URL you're going to paste in already has http: in the address.

7. Click OK. Your desired link name should appear underlined.

Here is a working example: The Fox News homepage is located HERE.

I guess that's what I didn't do. I remembered (I thought on iRV2) that the link box used to have two fields, one for the name, and one to insert the address. Guess I was confusing my forums......

Dave,

It was that way with our old software but that method went away when we switched over to vBuletin last year.

That will take some practice. I messed one up the other day and asked the moderator to remove it. I copied the instructions to my desk top. I hope that I don't mess up again.

Along the lines of posting...How come some posts are repeated more than once. Is it because the person posting hits "submit reply" twice instead of waiting for it to post? Joe

The double posts are due to a software glitch that occurred last year when we converted to vBulletin.

it's worth noting that custom BBcode strings CAN be inserted in vbuletin.

I belong to several other forums where this works as you ask, I think it's a modification or "hack"

you hit link and a browse field is displayed.
You paste in the url and click ok
the bb code inserts into your reply. the second url is highlighted automatically, you just type your text to display
