I still like 1 the best. Then the iRV2 logo wouldn't interfere with the main subject of the photo (i.e. the pavillion with the banner & the USA/iRV2 flag pole in the center) & there'd be enough rigs showing on each side.

I better understand the 8:1 ratio, so I'll go back thru my albums & see if I have anything that'd work.

So we can all see how this works I was able to setup the 2009 National images posted in Post #5 into rotation. This is pretty cool but I need to work on some caching so it will not cause the pages to slow down.

Please post your feedback, comments and more photos...

I it! This is such a good idea. I think members really missed the random pictures of the day that used to rotate on the original home page. This will be a great way to get that back.

I'm surfing my albums for more pics, but here's a couple I found that are in that 8:1 ratio. The one on the left is our previous truck/5-r combo & Frank P. Martin's TT when we were both at Salt Fork State Park in OH one spring. The one on the right is of Sunnybrook RV Resort in MI last fall. Our coach is the 4th from the left.

OK, so we need to keep these organized by season and come up with a plan for which months we show different type photos. For example, Lori's photo here is perfect for next fall:

Lori, I will bring back the random photos soon. I just have to get the server stuff ironed out first.

Question about seasons.. Quartzsite is every January (I will be there in less than a week) with many folks on the forum showing up...but the photos do not look like winter. How would you handle something like that? It does not seem appropriate to show QZ photos anytime but January

You know, the more I think about it, as we gain more member photos in the database, I feel you could probably rotate photos more often than just once a month. Rotate them once a week, maybe? That would give more members a chance to see their pic in the heading.

As for categorizing by season or theme, I don't think that really matters right now. If we get enough pics spanning the seasons, then I think you could start organizing & dedicating themed pics for a particular time span. Until then, just rotate them randomly like in the current Campgrounds & Photos sections.

Again, awesome idea.

We could probably make every January snowbird month and showcase photos from various winter destinations. That way our members in cold locations will feel warm (or jealous) while these arctic blasts pass through.

Other ideas for monthly themes could be:
December: Christmas/Holiday Theme
July: 4th of July

We would need to have the images we want to use a few weeks before. As the years go by we can either use all new images or some of the best of the best from the years before.

This could work. I am up for whatever we as a group decide is best for the community. It's always fun to see your photos and your rig in the header so rotating weekly or from 1st to 15th and 16th to 30th of a month would work too.

On issue is that we need to keep to a minimum the number of photos we show at any one time. The reason being is that every page load requires a new image to download. When you show a handful I can set it up so browsers will cache the image which allows the pages to render faster. Example: if we show 5 images for two months most browsers will only need to download each one once and then they will pull from their cache on all the page reloads. This is especially important for our members on slow connections since it saves about 50kb on each page load.

Here's another thought (boy, I sure can't stop my brain from churning them out)...

If we get enough pics submitted of prior iRV2 National Rallies, you could set them up to rotate often throughout the month the current Rally is being held - call it "Rally Month".

So here's the assignment to all the Rally-goers for the upcoming 2010: Take lots of panorama or long distance view shots of the Rally this year.

On edit, good to know about the loading. I keep forgetting everyone doesn't have high-speed internet access. We don't want to lose members because our pages take to long to open. Someone has to know all that techno-geek stuff.

Hi Andy:

The pictures I have seen so far are impressive, Great Job! I look at them and say to myself, "That might be a nice place to camp, (or visit or whatever)" but I have no idea where it is. I know this will involve a little more work but could there be a small description somewhere on the picture denoting what and where it is? Even something simple like "Trailer Trash Campground -- city, state" or "Dropsy Falls -- city, state" would be helpful.
