First impressions: the Google ad (above our Mission Statement) is gone without me having to initiate anything. So the only ads I see are our Sponsor ads between the 1st & 2nd post of a thread. Pages on IRV2 are loading faster (I need to check on other sites I visit). I checkmarked the box to transfer all my IE favorites to FF & watched as it said it did it. That was slick. Took me a few seconds to find where My Favorites (called bookmarks on FF) list is accessed. No scripts error....so far.

The jury is still out, but so far, it's doing what iRV2 members have said it does. I will keep testing it.

Lori, be sure to download the Ad Block Plus add-on. It will get rid of ALL the ads! Still can't believe the difference!

Firefox is gone after working with it this afternoon on my laptop, Desktop might be different? but again I don't like the operating platform compared to IE. Just me, somethings are not for everyone

I also run IE8 for most things, on a Win XP machine and was having long load times with IRV2. Every time I changed pages in the "new posts" listing it hung up for maybe 60 seconds, with the message along the bottom of the screen that it was "waiting for facebook.com....."

Since I also have Google Chrome, I accessed IRV2 with it, and pages now change in about 3 seconds.

Did it. I still see the Sponsor ads, but those are ok. We want to see those.

I only see ads at the bottom of the page between the last post and the quick reply box, are these the sponsor ads you see?

I just installed Google Chrome and ditched IE. Life is good. I'm adjusting to Windows 8, anyway the Google Chrome browser is very fast.

Firefox and Chrome have been way ahead of Micorsoft in the "Browser Wars" for a number of years now. They both run faster than IE without nearly as many security issues. The only I time I ever use IE at all anymore is if a website is specifically designed for IE. Even then, I have to really, really want to view that website.

I don't have ads between the last post & quick reply box. Maybe a difference in OS?

Anybody else using Opera? Currently 12.11, but I have been using it for many years. It seems to start up faster than other browsers, but irv2 is still slower than other sites I visit. I have ad block plus and don't see any ads.

How about turning off all the ads on irv2 for an hour or so and see what happens, then only half and then half of the half, etc, and see if there is an ad or server causing the problem.

Reporting what OS, browser, version, etc is a great idea. Does that also include which of the hundreds of options one is using? Changing and option, restarting the browser, if necessary, remembering that option, changing it back and trying another would be a nightmare.

My opinion of fast/slow may differ from someone else's opinion. If you don't know what fast is, how would you ever know what slow is?

I asked a forum owner friend, running the same brand of software, why he didn't include the text with the email notifications of a new post. He said he makes money on every mouse click. Just sayin'....

And another thing. Whenever you install a new program and don't like it, the un-install still leaves files on your computer, which you may or may not ever use again. I had one program that left the folder, sub-folders and icon. No telling what else it left.

You are welcome.

I see by a subsequent post that you prefer IE and there is no problem with that. Sometimes it is in the "eye of the beholder" as to what they like best. I was just hope that some would try a different browser to see if the problem of "slow" went away, and apparently it did in most cases.

Don't give up on one of the other browsers. Originally I did not enjoy the switch either, but I mumbled through it for a couple of days and it started to become more familiar. To me, there isn't anything the other browsers cannot do, it is just a little different in the way they do them.

As i stated in a previous post, many people are resistant to change just because it is change. That's fine if that is what they want.

In all of my adult days I have lived under a philosophy when I had others under my wing that in most instances it did not matter how something was done as long as the end results and the time frame were the same, or close to the same. If I prefer to use 2+2=4 and another person would rather use 1+1+1+1=4, well the results are the same. All I ever ask of those working for me was to try it, and if they didn't like it and the results are the same - no problem. I wasn't working rocket science.

Happy trails.

For those using Firefox try this: (be warned - it will change things)

Right click on the page you are on. In the menu that pops up choose "view page info."

Click on the "media" tab, and then check the box to block images from ???????? where ??????? is the site the page is on.

BE WARNED. all the campfires will disappear. You may get cold.

With ads constantly flashing it has to be a big part of the slow down. I believe there is imbedded tracking because a lot of ads seem to come up with somehting I have looked at lately. I have smoking fast business class internet at two of my locations. using three different computers this site is painfully slow and indeed the back button has been an issue for a long time. Newer is not always better. Trying to cram so many ads that have motion is just silly. I tried to use the forum a couple of weeks ago via a weak hot spot connection and it was useless trying to change pages.

Can't say the forum is Free any Longer having paid for additional bandwidth and the privledge of being a "supporter". This is still an excellent forum but the slow speeds may make it incredibly difficult to deal with when traveling.

Do the blinking ads come with being a supporter? I turned off both my ad blockers, restarted Opera and I still don't see anything blinking or have any ads.
