I don't know if there is a time limit but it happens to me at times when I'm trying to do a long post or by loading photos and adding text.

I've learned to highlight and copy the post to the clipboard in case it happens....then I just have to reopen the rely window and paste the post back in and hit reply. Extra work at times but easier than starting from zero.

There is a time out (logout) after so many minutes of inactivity....just dont know how long it is. You can open another window if you are going to be awhile, then periodically browse in that window to keep you logged in. Or as already stated, copy your reply to the clipboard as you mosey along.

You might try posting this in the Tech section for better exposure.

30 seconds less than you need.

Which is why I type the post backwards.

.siht ekiL

Then I have 30 seconds more than I need.

Most forum time outs for no activity are usually 30 minutes to one hour, so unless you are taking that long to type your post I doubt it is timing out due to that.

It does not time-out the session, as after it LOSES the post, you go right back to where you were before you started your post. Just happened to me earlier today, and happens about every 10 posts. Short or long.

I Hate it. And Most times I won't re-write it. I figure my post must have not been as important as I thought, and the thread demons deleted it. Community loss.

This can happen if you mistakenly hit the Backspace key. Your browser will backup to the prior screen. Not if you are typing in the editing screen. But it ain't hard to mistakenly click the mouse outside the edit box while typing. Once outside, the Backspace key will back you up.

Sounds implausible, but I do it occasionally. Which is why I typically will
  1. type the post in Notepad or Wordpad, then paste it into a new post, or
  2. Copy the post periodically like Workshop says. Easy if you use this method - Press Ctrl-A [to Select All], then Ctrl-C [to Copy the selection]. If you lose the post, just open a new reply and press Ctrl-V [to Paste] the copied text.
True tho that you better off asking this question in the Tech section. They may think of a setting in your Profile that may cause this. They know the settings better than we.

Some things to remember.
1. When logging into iRV2 make sure to check the "remember me" box to the right of where one enters their ID. One needs to do this each and every time when logging into the site.
2. The Internet, especially wireless, can do mysterious things when not having activity. Like posted earlier, copy the post before you send it.

I have also lost posts. Both short and long. Wireless and Ethernet. This was because of poor Internet. On long posts or those taking considerable research, I do copy before sending.

It times out on me when I'm just going through pages reading. I'll click on "New Posts" when I log on (automatically) and there can be anywhere from 3 to 7 or more pages, 50 posts per page. No, I do not read them all but I scan through the titles and if one hits my eye as interesting I look at the thread it is in to see if it pertains to me generally or by mfg. I post to some, like this thread. Somewhere around page 5 or 6 it times out, then I have to start all over again, but at least this time through I can scan a little faster and get though all 7 pages. But it sucks.

Mine has never timed out on me. I'm using Google Chrome so I don't know if that makes a difference. I don't post each day but I'm reading the forum while drinking my first cup of coffee each day. I stay logged into the forum while at work during the day if I've started reading a long thread so I can continue where I left off and have never had to log back in.

I'm using Firefox, and it may have to do with "Cool Preview," where I never actually click on a link, but hover over the Cool Preview icon and it pops up in a different frame.
