Missing pictures

On several occaisions, I have followed pointers to pictures only to find them gone. This only happens on pictures that are not on irv2. Is there some way to encourage posters to upload pictures to irv2 so that they don't disappear in the future?

There were some links lost when we made the transition to the new software. If you can post the ones that are still a problem, we can try to track them down.

I moved some of my pictures into folders so the links to my mods are broken. I can't edit the original posts but the link in my signature is still good to all of them. If I'm one of the offenders I'm sorry but there are too many to upload them all.

The problem that I am describing is one where the pictures are located at another site (like flickr) and the orignal poster has deleted or moved them.

If they were on this site, it would not be a problem.

The solution is more social than technical. If folks could easily upload pictures to this site and were encouraged to do so, the pictures could be archived indefinitely.

For the most part, I think it's easier now to upload photos here since we no longer have a different log in for that section anymore. Although, as Dick stated, some have just too many photos to put them in multiple locations & it's easier to just link to the stored site in their posts.

One idea, if one wants to view a member's photos from a off-site link which isn't working anymore, is to PM that member letting them know their previously posted link needs repaired & to have them contact an Admin here for help re-establishing the link.

The other problem may be that members tend to delete photos from their "off-site" accounts which will break the link - or they have deleted all photos from their computers.
It would certainly help if many members used the account here on iRV2.

MM, I just noticed that two of my photos I uploaded from my computer where lost in the outage last week. Since there is a time limit on editing on IRV2, I emailed you the photos and the link to the post.Thanks.

I gotthe photos inserted back into your post, Woody. I don't usually post photos from my computer. I upload them to my Albums here on the forum. It takes maybe a couple of moments longer- but I know the links will not disappear from my posts...(I just have to be logged onto the forum and then go to the "Photos" section and click the Upload Photos link)

FYI - I usually will click on the Photos link above and the second command in the drop-down is "Upload Photos"
