I tested the photo attach function and although it worked I notice that some photo's have attached files box around them and others don't. What's the difference?

Images with the box are attached (uploaded) to the post. The images without the box have been linked to and are hosted elsewhere. You can read up this in post 7 here.

Also, something to take note of is you do have a limited amount of attachment space for your account on the forum. For pictures you want to stay up for longer periods of time, I would recommend using a webhost and linking to them. For short threads where the files may not be needed after the conclusion of the thread, using the attachment feature is more ideal.

This is an image file that is included as an "attachment" (the paperclip icon in advanced editor). It uses the ATTACH xx /ATTACH tags.

Name:   RVDude-logo-vert-light-back-small.gif
Views: 51
Size: 2.5 KB

The following is an image that is linked from another URL using the "insert image" tool. This uses the IMAGE url /IMAGE tags.

Although the attachment method is supposed to have the box border around it, for some reason using the gif file above it doesn't add the box around it?????:co nfused:

Also note that if you use 5 or more similes in a row this happens::c onfused:
only if there is no space before the first simile in the sequence...
and when I add a space before the first simile I get:

new test no space before
a

a:confused :

Oh well... Pretty minor gremlins I would say.... eh?

While it is true that storage space is somewhat limited, if you reduce file sizes to 50 or 60 k you can load a LOT of images. The problem with images hosted elsewhere is that sometimes they are removed or the site goes down. Sites like photobucket often prune old content. If the attachment was important to the content of the post (maybe in a repair discussion) losing the picture is unfortunate.

At 50 K per image you can load over 1000 pictures into posts before you run out of headroom.

I do believe iRV2 has its own photo archive, http://www.irv2.com/photopost/index.php, unless this feature is going away with the ongoing migration of the site to the new owners servers?

If its not, then wouldn't it be more prudent to save the attachments for short term items, and use the photo gallery for pictures one wants to have stay up longer?

The gallery will stay although it will get a face lift and be moved to new servers shortly as will the classifieds.
