Wish I could help you, but...I'm clueless I think.
Ate you using Windows or Apple? IE should have a Java applet already installed.

I assume the OP means IE 10. There is no such thing as Windows 10. Windows 8 is the latest and greatest Windows. IE 10 just became available for Win 7 and is default in Win 8.
I would do 2 things. First uninstall Java using JavaRa to completely remove Java. I would then go to Java and download the latest Java again. Install the latest version.
Then open the Gear icon in your browser and choose Manage Add-ons. In Tools and Extensions you should see Java listed and it should be enabled.

I don't mean to sound sarcastic but are you logged in on your user name. Just a thought as I have done this a time or two. Jim

Java and Chatroom
I have been using the chat room for more than 10 years. Had no problem with my new Windows 8 / Internet Explorer 10 until last week.
After the most current Java Update / Java 7 update 20, I can not enter the chat room either.
I uninstalled it / reinstalled it/ everything is enabled, just like before.
I get a message: IE blocked this website from installing an Active X control. Then : windows has blocked this software because it can't verify
the publisher.
I played around with various security settings which did not help.
So until Java has an update that will fix the problem I figured out that I can get in the chat room using Google Chrome !!!
Hope this is some help for some of you, to at least get in the rooms until Java figures out the conflict with Internet Explorer
