Problems with IRV2?

I'm having problems with the pages taking FOREVER to load, only sometimes! I don't seem to notice this problem on other sites. Is this a problem with the site or is it my computer? Thanks!

No, I'm using Firefox. When I first got on IRV2 I used IE, but it was AWFUL! When I went to Firefox everything was extremely fast. This problem has only been happening a week or so! I'm having it on other sites, but not as bad.

How long has it been since you cleared your cookies and history from your browser? I do it at least once a month and have no problems with any of my sites.

I was having a very long load time for each page only on irv2. I tried everything I knew to do and finally gave in and downloaded a free add blocker. Problem solved. I did not want to go this route since the advertisers help to pay for this very useful site, but it was so slow I could not effectively use the site. The one I use is Adblock Plus.

right now I am running Roadrunner and a DSL line. Time Warner downgraded my RR to basic about two months ago when I called in about a problem. The end result of calling them about all my problems was I added a DSL line.

If you are running RR basic the software used to limit your speed increases the time it takes to make a connection beyond the point where the connection attempt fails as well as introducing other connection problems. This seems to be something they initiated fairly recently around here. If you are running RoadRunner for you internet connection that may well be your problem too.

As of today RR upped my speed again and it looks like that solved a lot of problems. So far my thought is that if you want RR basic you can save a lot of money switching to DSL. If you cannot do DSL it looks like you need their turbo package which is essentially what you bought years ago as standard because they are not doing heavy packet inspection and delay to slow your connection.

Pages take a long time to load

I was using IE as my go to browser.

It struggled, the ads killed it, I was unable to scroll up or down until the ads were fully loaded.

This happened each time I would go to another page.

When on IVR2 I now use Fire Fox. It is much better, but still the response time is slow.

I'm on several other forums and do not have this problem, examples RV.Net RV and Camping Forum ? RV, Trailer, Camper, Motorhome, Camping and Campground Information , Jeep CJ Forum - JeepForum.com , Firebird Nation, run the front engine dragster forum
FrontEngineDragsters.Org Forum - Index

There are just too many ads.

I Run a server as a PC and have RoadRunner as my cable service
I installed adblock as suggested by LarrytheBear and it helps to the point that I can use IE while browsing IRV2 but pages are still slow.

Firefox without the adblock still loads the pages quicker

The ads are what keep the site free for members. As has been discussed before, you can take steps to reduce ads:
  • Be sure you're logged in
  • Turn off the right column via your User CP
  • Install an AdBlocker

I am a paying supported

AdBlocker is a problem in itself

I just turned the right column off, will see if that helps, thanks, this appears to have made a difference, IE now loads
