Shockwave Flash has crashed

Seeing this message near the address bar on the forums recently. I'm using the latest version of Chrome on Windows 10 and the Shockwave plug-in is also the latest version. I believe that I heard that Flash was not being supported after a certain date in some instances. Any idea what's up with the message?
Thanks,
Al

Flash has been a constant source of concern by the security folks for a long time. Chrome has their own flash player not Adobe's. At the same time web developers have been using it all over the place instead of phasing it out. The intention is to replace it with HTML5. Here is a link that discusses the issues a bit:

Why Browser Plug-Ins Are Going Away and What’s Replacing Them

Here is a comparison:

Note that in the table "limited access" is a good thing.

Well I went ahead and disabled the Shockwave plug-in and haven't noticed anything not working yet, and, the error message is gone. All is good again. thanks for the links.
