Site maintenance

Is there any way to schedule the routine maintenance of the site at midnight or very early morning instead of the mid morning as is now the case ?

Would you like to get up at midnight to wash your clothes? The site maintenance folks like to get some sleep as well.

I just had to chime in on the last comment about losing sleep. This is kin to the comment about the problems with the iPad app, when a moderator said "it's a free app, what do you expect". That problem still exists by the way after two months of problems. This is a profit making organization and exists for that reason. Many posters access the site of a morning, and the maintenance sessions are a pain for sure. This is a very useful tool for RV owners, but any business must improve every day or it will not survive. I do not see that kind of hussel and drive to improve this site.

A person has choices in life, and my choice is to move on to something different and return at a later time.

I'll have to take a look at the iPad app issue. DW uses it exclusively and has not complained to the technician, me.

They do site maintenance? On the iPhone app I never notice it. I do fins there are function issues with the free app - can't get to "groups", no emotes, etc. But I like the app more than the full site for speed - layout - etc. Use the site for groups - edit CP and to use the Thank You button. Wish some of these things were in the app but understand it is a third party provider. Overall both site and app are pretty darn good for the price!

Regardless of the time that we do site maintenance someone will be inconvenienced. Typically we do this early in the morning est, but sometimes it slides later if there is a problem that needs to be addressed.

You might try a glass half full approach to the interruption and take a few minutes to do something else....

  • Clean your rig
  • Write those thank you cards
  • Shop for my birthday

My thanks to everyone who works to keep this site online. As a business owner (thankfully retired), I had customers who thought I should be open 24/7/365 for their convenience. In their self-absorbtion, they never considered that I wanted some time with my family also.

So it goes.....................

The nerve of you wanting to spend some time with your family
I know that I'm on every morning during maintenance and like Janet says I think of other things to do for the few minutes it takes.

Being a new member, I am thoroughly enjoying this site and all the helpful hints, tips, and ideas that are out here. The site has provided a wealth of knowledge for me as a newbie to the RV world, and that it is free for me to use, all because of support by vendors and a hard working staff.

Having said that, it amazes me that someone could complain about when maintenance is being done to the site. I usually don't comment/complain on forums but I have to speak out this time.

Maybe all the political news, tax talk, gun control and the like has me stirred up to have me speak out about people who are quick to gripe about anything as they are hidden behind the internet.

My suggestion to the person complaining is to go wax your RV and when you finish it come back to this great enjoyable site!

My complements to the staff and administrator for a job well done!

Smokey, no one was complaining... Cliff, glad to her you have other things to do and don't mind the interruption. bluepill, I too was and still am a business owner. 35 years as an over the road owner operator and now as a property investor/landlord, so what time I have is limited most days. I was not complaining but simply making a suggestion.....
Everyone have a good day.

Everyone have a good day.

I really appreciate the input and didn't view this as a complaint. It's cool that members notice how the site is being managed and we try to pay attention to feedback even if we can't always accommodate requests.

One of the reasons (as Route 66 pointed out) for the maintenance schedule is that the handful of folks who keep the day to day workings of the server and software running live and work in the USA. Our servers are here as well and so this work is done in the same time zones that you are viewing in. I guess if we had offshore support and services it might be a different matter, but we are firmly rooted in the USA.

iRV2 is primarily run by volunteers. Moderators and admins manage the day to day things at the site and even respond to help desk concerns sent via the contact link at the bottom of the page. Your input is valuable and this sort of input is what has shaped this community; it's the reason we have a more collegial feel, the reason we have various discussion areas and even the reason we have some site features.

Thanks for paying attention
