Almost fixed: ad still on top of drop down menu. Well at least it is on my machine.

My system: HP laptop, windows 7 Home Premium, IE9.

Shows the same on my PC. Blocked by ad overlay.

What I can't understand is how advertisers can think obnoxious, intrusive ads are going to endear people to the products or services they are hawking. Before I started blocking ads, I would glance at ads and take a closer look if it was for something I was interested in. I also made it a point to boycott companies that employed obnoxious, intrusive ads (and I let them know it).
You would be surprised.. My brother finally decided to put the simple text Google ads on his site.. A computer repair and information site. Just 4 simple ones per page. He generated $33 dollars his first month. Double that now.. While not a lot, it more than pays his server fees and internet connection...

And thats just the text type of Google ads..

There is a difference between simple ads that just set there and don't bother anyone or keep them from viewing the website's content. I'm referring to drop-down and pop-up ads that obscure the sit's content and the ones that have annoying, distracting animation and/or loud audio. Advertisers that force themselves on to people like that are on the same level as the donkey excavations who use illegal telemarketing.

It's not just you- it's cut by nearly half, at least on my screen...more ad room, I guess- unless there's just less activity!?

No- it's labeled "recent discussions"...it's on the right side of every page, and it's definitely shorter than it used to be.

I do see that it can be turned off altogether by clicking on an arrow at the top...maybe yours is off!

I show 12 items in Recent Discussions. IIRC, that's about what it used to be. I'm running IE9 update version 9.0.11 under Windows 7.

Actually, I think the right column is now wider than it used to be, creating the illusion that the "Recent Discussions" box is shorter and contains fewer posts.

What bothers me is that when I've already read a "Recent Discussion" it continues to hold the same position in the box and still displays the same typeface. So if you're reading the recent discussions it becomes confusing as to what you've read and what you haven't.

EDIT: Ask and ye shall receive! Within 5 minutes of the above post suddenly the "Recent Discussions" box displays the subjects of unread posts in bold text and read posts in normal text. Well done IRV2!
