So, if everybody blocks the ads, what good are they? They don't generate 'click revenue' if nobody sees them.

It's so bad over the last few weeks that I'm reluctant to go to "less interesting" subjects and/or offer "help" as it takes so long.....
Like others, this is the only site I have problems with.
STRANGE! After writing above message wednesday, sometime thursday everything went back to the old iRV2 - fast or at least as fast as other sites.

They usually do maintenance every night around 3am MST. Makes me wonder if they sometimes get in the system and tweak stuff in the middle of the day. The back button problems is still intermittent.

When I tried to post this message, I got "Connection Closed by Remote Server" a couple of times. Other sites load fine.

Are there different versions of ad block for different versions of windows and are they free. I use aol most times and also have had a problem with load up times on this site.

The other side of that is if the ads adversely impact loading time, some folks will drift away to other sites and the ads still won't be seen.

I had the same problem (IE8 no ad blocker).

I fixed it by:
1. Select "User CP" (CP = "control panel" Found at the top menu tabs)
2. Under "Settings and Options" (left column) Pick "Edit Options"
3. Go all the way to the bottom and "Turn off right column"

That doesn't do anything for the ones that are in the center of the pages.

True, True. Like for the first page of this thread, I still see 2 ads...

But, it cut my wait time to a reasonable level...and I didn't have to load any software or switch to a different browser.

Guess I'm just getting too old to mess with these "fancy computin' things."

OK, enough is enough! This morning for over 1/2 hour, nothing below the forum header would even load. I've done enough programming in my day to know that, if I were in the back room cutting code, I'd give these calls to the advertisers a limited amount of time to respond to a call (like, 1 second). If it didn't, I'd bypass that call and proceed with the program. Is that not something to at least consider?

Get Firefox with APB

Get rid of IE as it has no add-blocker and hackers love it's weak spots. I use MozillaFireFox with the add-on called ABP or AdBlock-Plus. It blocks 99.99% of ads on all websites and pages load quickly.

With FireFox and Adblock-Plus I don't see any ads in the middle of the pages.

Most people don't click on them anyway, so what's the difference? That's why things like AdBlockPlus came along.

Makes perfect sense, however, vBulletin is closed source, so I doubt iRV2's programmers have access into the code that way.

Back in the late 90's I took some HTML courses. The instructor said there was a study that showed people will leave your site if it doesn't render in less than 5 seconds. This was in the days when most folks were using dial-up to access the web and so making your code tight and your images small was a major focus.

Of course web sites were monolithic back then, and a webmaster had 100% control over the performance of the site, because ALL the content was served by HIS server.

These days you go to iRV2.com's home page and you get content from 15 different servers all over the country, and iRV2's admins have no control over 14 of them them. If one of those servers is slow to respond to a request, it slows the whole page render down, or stops it completely.

The only thing iRV2's admins can do is figure out which ones are causing the problem, and remove their content from the site. Or, appeal to them to fix their problem.
