If you are using the Firefox browser and have a DSL or Broadband connection, you can make Internet pages load much faster.

Follow the instructions HERE

I did this and saw a marked improvement.

Another improvement is to specify Open DNS as your domain name server rather than use your ISP's default DNS. The IP addresses to specify are 208.67.222.222 (main) and 208.67.220.220 (secondary). If you know what I am talking about, you will know how to set up your connection settings. If the above is greek to you, you probably shouldn't be messing around with anything. Opendns.com has more information.

Wow - BIG improvement! Thanks.

I wonder - will these changes have to be made after each Firefox update or will they remain in affect?

Thanks

DNS = Domain Name Server This is what translates www.irv2.com to aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd

OBTW - You will need to sign up with OpenDNS to get it to work. Once you have an account you will need to create a network and "customize" your configuration for say dynamic IP update. Lastly you may want to download the OpenDNS Client updater program.

Creating an account is optional. By specifying the OpenDNS servers by IP address, you will be using their name servers instead of the default one set by your internet provider. Some tests have shown that OpenDNS is faster and safer than others.

True... but to use some of the nicer features of OpenDNS like dynamic IP's , filters and the like you need an account, which is FREE.
