There is a lot of info there on how to get rid of the ads.

I use Adblock Plus and see no ads of any kind on this web page nor any Stabil banner.

No problem using a space either.

Here is a better solution...

I know there are many that use AdBlocker and to each his own, I prefer not to encumber my browsers with an add on like this. It took me a bit but here is how you can simply turn off the ads that appear on the right side.

Click on "Quick Links" up on the right side below your user name.
Select "Edit Options"
Scroll to the bottom of that page and in the Misc Options block you will see "Turn Off Right Column"

Simple solution... no more annoying Sta-Bil add and other flashing stuff

I'm curious Arch, what computer and browser messes up your spacing? I'm on a Macbook Pro and Chrome.

Bob, I don't think the issues are the type of laptop or browser. The issue is more related to all of the other stuff running that is impossible for a software developer to test against the millions of permutations that may exist. Many people run multiple add-ons and extensions with their browsers. Sometimes they just don't play nice together and trying to troubleshoot the issue is almost impossible.

Just my two cents, and for me the reason why I am very careful about the number and type of add-ons and extensions I add to my browsers. For others, your mileage may vary.

I was curious because I experienced the infiltration of ads a few weeks ago as mentioned in the link in post #6. They're gone again, I suspect an AdBlock update that didn't work then got updated again a day or two later. Normally 15-18 ads get blocked on each iRV2 page. While I was in Australia and New Zealand, suddenly they were getting through, eating up my limited bandwidth. After a day or two, the ads got blocked again.

In addition, I can still have the right side column enabled and I only see the 'Recent Discussions' box, nothing else.

Bob, Unless you really love AdBlocker for assisting with other websites why not just uninstall it? I posted instructions earlier today to turn off the ads from your iRV2 user control settings. Why take pain killers for shoes that hurt your feet when you can just change your shoes?

That only works for the Right side... doesn't do anything for the top banner nor the bottom banner ads. However, for those at home and not worried about data plans, another simple solution I do when I get frustrated is to simply use the control and scroll to enlarge my viewing so that the ads are beyond the viewing area of the screen. I do that mostly for when they are really moving, flashy or otherwise annoying instead of nice quiet stay put ads that don't distract me so bad I can't read.

I'd just wear padded socks. AdBlocker works quite well and blocks annoying, bandwidth eating, ads on many other sites. On iRV2 it saves 'miles' of scrolling since each post is not clogged with ads. Except for the few days of ads getting through at the end of February, it's worked flawlessly. I was just wondering how it interfered in posting spaces for Arch.

Bob, Moleskin works well too .
The only time I ever saw ads between posts is if I'm not logged in. It sounds like you are not logged in.

A second thread was started about the Sta-Bil ads. I've merged the threads together to keep all discussions in one thread.

How is it one careless match can start a forest fire but it takes a whole box to start a campfire?

I tried on a couple different system..XP running Firefox and a laptop running Windows 7 with Firefox. Chrome browser would work fine.

It was Adblock plus and I discovered you can turn it off for individual pages so that's what I did.

It was an odd problem because what it did was remove the spaces between paragraphs...notice I have three spaces so far...it would remove all those when I posted.

It also didn't have the little icon you use to notify a moderator nor could I start a thread.

I have shut off Adblock Plus on IRV2 but just now did the "remove right column" hint MandG-fun suggested.

As others have suggested there a lot of things that interact and I suspect something was interacting.

I sent an Email to the tech support people on here and they were working with me when I discovered the Adblock causing it.
