I browse this site both with different browsers one with, one without, an ad blocker, and I don't see any popups. However I have noticed that the ads are MUCH more 'in your face' if I'm not logged in. It only takes me about 30 seconds to login if I've been logged out for any reason - otherwise I couldn't stand being on the site.
I wonder if some of the ads/popups being seen are by those folks who are not currently logged in.

Personally I like the right column. Many of the ads are for interesting items, and I use both the RV Park Reviews and Recent Discussions areas a LOT.

Agreed. I like the Recent Posts. I should not have to shut down part of the site to enjoy it ....

Speaking for myself, without logging in, the page has ads infused within the posts of members and between posts. Then there is the right margin which contains much to offer. My problem as cited before has to do with the errant touch of an ad within the right margin and a new tab opens, taking me away from what I intended to view.

Although I turned off the right margin, it had many proper uses. I would be happy with it relocated to the left side (I'm right handed) or below.

I have the same problem with my laptop. A combination of touching the trackpad in 2 places at once causes it to ZOOM out real fast. I keep having to remind myself to keep my hands away from that area. Hey! that sounds like something my wife would say to me

Tip: Even though the Recent Discussions panel is lost when the right column is turned off, just click on the New Posts tab in the 2nd toolbar & you'll see all the Recent Discussion threads as well as dozens more.

Granted, you have to click on a tab to see them & it's not the same as having that panel in view on the page all the time, but it is an alternative to missing what's contained in that panel.

Another tip: If you really, really miss the right column when it's turned off, just click on the Blogs tab>Recent Entries. The right column isn't turned off on that page. You can get your fix of ads & the Popular Campgrounds from RVPR's panel. And, maybe you'll read a blog or 2.

Popup Ads and the Right column

Quote:
I see that you have your right column turned on could you possibly run a test for us an follow the instructions in reply # 19 of this thread and tell us the outcome?
I'm using Firefox browser and an ad blocker to stop popups and ads. On the right side I see three sub windows (widgets); Recent Discussions, Ohio Campgrounds, and RV LIFE Featured articles.

As recommended by JohnRR, When I go into my User profile, I can turn the right side panel on /off. Goto your "User CP" (control panel)

UserCP > Settings and Options > Edit Options

Scroll down as its the very last item.

When I turn this off, those three panes go away. I left mine turned on as I rely on the "Recent Discussions" pane.

Thank you for doing that, the reason I asked is that my admin control panel reacts differently from yours and I wanted to be sure what we were recommending was in fact the same information and reaction yours had.

Also if you click on Recent Posts from the top tool bar it will show you all the recent posts that you have not read yet from all forums.

Too much of a good thing

I appreciated the adds and would often used the links......but more and more I found that when I was on IRV2 then Firefox would lock up so that Task Manager was needed to close the window.

I tried posting this an hour ago and Firefox locked up again. This time I loaded Addblock Plus into Firefox. The site is running like it use to.
