I don't know how long it's been there, but I noticed this little "Thanks!" button you can click on for every posting now. I tried clicking on it for one of my own postings and a small window appeared saying:

This post has not received any reputation.
You currently have 859 reputation point(s).

Is there any explanation on the site as to what this is, what its purpose is and can I do with it? Is there a way I can see which postings I have received points for?

859 reputation points? I'm elated. I didn't think I ever posted anything that someone would actually approve of. I guess I won't jump off that bridge I was contemplating doing this morning. To those who voted... THANKS!

Don't brag too quickly those points could be like Drivers Licenses points and count against you.

The Thanks button is new and a nice way to show agreement or appreciation for a good post.

Each time you click the thanks icon (located in each post), the author of the post receives a point. You have the opportunity to leave a comment as well, which the post author can read.

You can access your own thanks comments in your user cp (click on user cp on the upper nav bar) and the last 30 or so will be displayed in the center section of the page under "Latest Thanks received" You can also see stats about how many times you've been thanked.

There is a meter in your public profile viewable by others, that also conveys information about the number of times you've been thanked.

So... why would certain people have so many points already? I understand Mods/Admin.. but why regular folks?

I'm just figuring out how it works, too. Our members are a wealth of information & have helped so many of us, whether newbie, seasoned or somewhere inbetween. This feature is a great little way to show appreciation to those members who's advice you benefitted from.

From what I understand, you cannot thank yourself. This is a safeguard built in to keep the unscrupulous from inflating their numbers.

Really the thanks button is a repurposed Reputation system. We are still tweaking this - look for a few more changes.

You can view thanks comments on your profile page (scroll down) http://www.irv2.com/forums/usercp.php

What happened to the thanks/reputation meter? I've been thanking people but the green measurement bar has disappeared.

It has been removed for several reasons. First it confused many, secondly, it clutters up already busy avatars and lastly, thanking really should be merit based for good posting, not a contest to have the biggest score. You can still see your thanks/rep on your profile page over to the right of your profile pic.

I must be blind...I don't see this anywhere in my CP.
