I edit my posts for the first couple minutes after i post them. i see that the "this post has been edit'd" label is turned on now. (?)

I know that there is a preview feature before posting, but some typos sometimes slip thru.
Its kinda an annoying label just because it reminds me of my infallability as a good-spellin' writer.

Is that label here to stay? And does it do a good job whatever its job is?

Or is there a new relationship as to when that label turns on as versus how much time we are allocated to edit?

My suggestion: Ignore it.. I mean everyone is entitled to the odd typo, or 2, or 20, or... Well, if you only had an idea of how many my speil clunker catches If, that is, I pay attention to it.

Seems that label has a mind of its own. I think we get 1 or 2 freebie edits or maybe 5-10mins of freebie and then it tags us over the next hour if we edit - 1 hour is the max time we get to edit a post.

I'm with you dog... I seem to catch my typos after posting and then go back and fix them.

With a 1 hour edit cut-off anyway, seems this is one more "feature" that could add to slowing down the site...

Seems the "new & improved" irv2 and Microsoft have something in common - bloatware! Even the features have features... Sorry irv2... Had to do it...

I got the "edit" note after only ~2 min when posting photos. I'm guessing the algorithm may include whether the post has been viewed or not, and maybe whether any edits done are above a certain threshold. Just a guess.

to all my analytical brothers here :

i edited a post 3 times after its initial post, all within 5 minutes, and the label pop'd up after only the 3rd, which was right at 5 minutes,

Dude and EngineerMike:
maybe there is some secret algorithm that ties in the # of edits, # of views, etc

look, i am mathematician and always prided myself on the fact that we could natoriously be bad spellers and scholastically get away with it,
now however i acknowledge that bad spelling gives people an impression of you and i regret my sloughing off in my school days in that respect ,

signed,
please-don't-label-me-as-a-slough-off-with-that-darn-'EDIT'-label Mike

Think we can anal-ize this any more?????
Too funny - fellow brethren keep the analysis coming!
We've got mathematicians, engineers, and who know what else working on it.

We WILL figure this out! Precisely to the last second and keystroke!

Have at it guys! I don't know the answer myself.

If the guys from the front office, or is it the back room, chime in, we'll know for sure.

Answers:

You can edit a post for 60 mins after it is initially made.
The edited by note displays beginning 3 minutes after the post originally goes up and is a software preset.

3 mins = 180 secs
60 mins = 3600 secs
The average hunt and peck typist can type 33 five character words per minute
5 x 33 = 165 keystrokes per minute
60 x 165 = 9,900 keystrokes per hour

That means that the average irv2 member can type 2.75 keystrokes per second.

uh... what was the question?

So much for the front office or back room boys.

Our gal Janet knew the answer.

the Dude:

Loved your movie bro !!

alright, i don't understand the need of EDIT acknowledgement with an also 60 minute cap anyway ... but i will now just quicken my edit times,
instead of doing them every other pitch while watching baseball games i will just get right down and do 'em,
get 'r done

You can also download ieSpell which may help with your spelling errors - but you have to remember to use it before you post!

I usually write my posts in MSWord, then paste them into the site edit window. In addition to the superior editing tools, I avoid the occasional glitch that closes my browser window in the midst of editing .

Or you can use Fire Fox Mozilla in lieu of IE and it has a built in Spell Checker.
