Maybe a victim of their own success, it's time to upgrade the servers again?

Like any other site, I experience a transient slowdown here - never any other problems as yet. In fact, I often come here when everything else sputters.

I do have a couple of free registry cleaners and cache dumpers that might be helping by clearing out junk files every time I start the PC. They are Avira and Advanced System Care. I used Avast for a long while and still do on the laptop, but they had a problem with XP - which, by choice am still using.

Check some of these freebies out on CNET. Many are excellent for 'fixing' slow computers (no, I don't work for any of these no CNET)

As some of you know, I'm on here all hours of the day and night(insomnia). There are brief times when it does slow down, but I have not had any "not responding" issues. Some of the other unnamed forums are always slower than IRV2. Painfully slower.

What kind of problem? I'm using Avast free on XP and haven't seen any problems (that doesn't mean there aren't any, just that I haven't seen any).

I haven't had any problems with the speed of this site. I'm in Tempe, AZ.

I have not experienced any slow down here other than in the chat rooms. I understand the chat rooms are on a different server.

It's probably peering issues with your ISP and irv2.com's. Those having problems should post a "traceroute" to www.irv2.com. Comparing those may indicate where the slowdown is (not that it will do you any good since you have no control over it). If there is a common area of slowdown, IRV2.com could contact their ISP and ask what's up.

Here's mine from a Verizon FIOS connection. Not great but not bad. Some of the last hops are a little slow at 50+ms. I'm having not issues.

I spent many years in IT support. People don't realize how many things are between them and a website that the site operators have no control over. Something in one of the common routes to this site may be having problems while other routes are fine. Of the hundreds, if not thousands, of "the site is slow" reports I handled over the years I can count on one hand the number of times the problem was actually the site itself.

The entire route isn't traceable but here's the first portion of the route from me to this site. Notice the times are in the same ballpark as the traceroute in a previous posting so neither of these routes is probably the problem.

After many years of research on the web, I have learned a few things about slow, fast, and troubles.

1) if you are using a wireless router, more than 2 computers on at same time can slow things down, espcially if downstreaming a video, movie, or music.

2) if you use cable internet, it slows down more & more with the number of users online at the same time. I won't use cable because I experienced this. I could not even have a decent expirience between the hours of 6pm until 10pm because of the trffic jam.

3) I puchase 3.0 DSL from Verizon. It is great, most of the time. Every once in awhile it slows way down for a few days. I report it, they check it, and found a bad connection along the way. Fixed....worked great. Another time it slowed, they found that a fellow had tapped into the system near my area, and was downloading way to much stuff, and jamming up the thru way. Got him off. Works great now.

4) Sometimes the website's server gets slow, or too many users at once.
Come back later and all is well.

5) The service provider in your area has a lot to do with speed. Actual wiring has a lot to do with it too. Friends in the mountains of northern Calif. had a little company providing service, and I could not email them photos, music, and such, as it took forever to download.

It was a lock up problem - and well reported on the 'net. Not all had the problem as shown with my laptop that runs fine with it. I'm about to reload it as it is to me a better system
