Too many badly written adds. Time to do something.

It's high time that the people that run forums start forcing the companies they get ads from to stop writing ads that take up so much bandwidth and processing power. When I'm loading a page and I see 5 and 10 second pauses while the ads do all of the games they play then you know that where the problems are.

When I watch a IRV2 page load it's always stalling on the ads. There is so much processing going on with these ads that web browsers stall and crash. This makes for an extremely poor user experience. Tell the ad companies you will not accept any adds that take lots of processing. No flash, no animated gifs and no ads with any video. Tell then that no ad can be larger than 38KB in size. These adds don't need to take over our devices to get there point across.

I understand that ads pay the bills but it should not be at the expense of the user experience.

If you ask why I think ads cause the crashes, because I've used forums that don't have ads and they never have issues. They load fast and give a great user experience. Only the ones running ads are the ones that crash. If forums would start kicking the ad companies you see this fixed.

IMHO others mileage may very.

Ads keep the lights on here. We could remove them all - how much are you willing to pay to support a site this size?

Barring that, you have multiple options to reduce or virtually eliminate ads:
1. Be logged in
2. Turn off the right column (via User CP)
3. Install an ad blocker for your browser.

I've done all 3 & see no ads.

Add Ad Block, script stop, flash block and pop up blocker to your browser and you won't see any add.

It's not that the ads are "badly-written", it is their bandwidths that is causing your issues.

Get the IRV2 app for iPhone or iPad. No advertisements show on the app.

I don't expect turning off ads since they do keeps the lights on. It's just the the ad companies have the idea that they can use any amount of bandwidth they want and take as long as they want to log your personal information.

I'll check out turning off the right panes since there isn't much I need it for and see if it helps when viewing on my iPad.

Thanks

Use the official IRV2 app for the iPad. No ads and a much better experience on the iPad than the full web browser display.

I use ad-block software and don't see any ads on iRV2, or most of the other sites I visit. I always use the "new posts" icon to open this site.

I do get frosted when supposed English-speakers use the wrong words. The abbreviation for "advertisements" had nothing to do with arithmetic. They're "ads". The number of semi-literate people that psot on the various web-sites is mind-boggling

Ok, this is funny; the guy complaining about people spelling the abbreviation of advertisement misspelled post and the guy in the next post misspelled ad.
