Weird Problem Today

I am no longer getting a fully responsive board. The picture across the top of the page is gone and when I click on any subscribed thread I automatically go to the very last post and not the first unread.

To put it in context at the same time I lost the ability to see anything at all on my facebook page other than the blue banner across the top and the fact that I have three messages and about 14 notifications of activities of my friends or family.

Also I cannot log into my webmail.shaw.ca site and keep getting this error.
Quote:
JavaScript Error
https://webmail.shaw.ca/en/mail.html?lang=en, Line 27
ReferenceError: argv is not defined
I may have a problem on this unit so I will have to find a bigger hammer and try fixing it again.

Have you deleted JAVA from your computer yet due to the security flaw that has been found in it?

Had some problems the past two days getting to Facebook and Hotmail Worked fine on the PC next to this one.
Running Windows XP sp3 and Firefox 17.0.1
Did a Windows update, about 18 updates were available, installed all and the problem cleared.
There is a security warning put out by the Homeland defense people about Java. A fix is available now and you need to go to Java website to get it. I just removed Java for now.

Make sure you're up to date. Dunno... Could be one of your plug ins.

Possum,
Try using a different browser. Java and Javascript are two different things. Javascript is a web page based item. I use firefox here and JAVA itself is disabled. I have no problem loading web pages. Check to see that you are using the latest version of Firefox. On my MAC it is version 18.0 I don't know what it is for Windows. It will not hurt the system to go to the Mozilla web site and download and install FF. If you are still having the problems, holler.

OK everyone and thanks for the help and suggestions. It was a combination of things and once the system was repaired everything is working as planned. The Java problem went away when I removed all things Java and the reloaded them. The niggardly items just took a long time to figure and sort out but after a few hours I managed to tag everything needing removal and got 'er done. The java script error I was getting came from a compromised website I had visited offering low cost air travel to a destination we are thinking of visiting that the MH won't get us to. Had a good friend who owns a computer sales and repair store walk me through all this on the phone. Oh well, all's well that ends well.

I've seen the info from HS about STILL having concerns with JAVA. I can't find it listed in my programs, but I must have it somewhere because I can still get into the chat rooms here, which use it.

If I can find Java and remove it from my computer, how will I access the iRV2 chat rooms ??? Thanks, ed

Thanks That was very helpful.

Maybe a Mod or Admin will answer my question, which was a legitimate question in this thread.

The chat requires some java support - if you remove it entirely you will not be able to access it. That said, I've seen two patches in the last two days pushed out, hopefully they've addressed the bulk of the end user concerns.
