Outstanding. Makes me feel better about runing 10K between oil changes on my vehicles with synthetic.

I have been running Mobile 1 full synthetic in all of my vehicles since 1997. Vehicles include the following: '96 Subaru, 2001 Dodge Dakota, 2004 Mitsubishi Gallant, 2006 Subaru Forrester, 2010 Toyota Tundra and now a 2012 Dodge Ram 1500. The '96 Subaru, Dakota, And Gallant all went over 100k with changes at 10k intervals. I never added a drop to any of the vehicles. I also have a couple of motorcycles a 2000 Kawasaki Nomad and a 2006 Kawasaki VN2000. I pulled a trailer behind them too. Oil changes at 10k, no add between changes.
The improvements in both metallurgy and lubricants over the past 50 years is remarkable.

It's not actually his rig.
It shows remarkable amounts of both ferrous and non-ferrous metals in the oil as well as other minerals. Flash point is reduced, as is viscosity. It's not an advertisement for synthetic, it's an advertisement for how bad oil can look...

I'm running synthetic in my MH and my jeep wrangler only change the oil filter at every 3000 miles and add oil to bring it back up to full. Still uses no oil. I work at the big stamping plant and they never change the oil in the press just the filters so why not my engines. It nice to do what ever I want, cause we live in the U.S.A.

I think 3k and synthetic is overkill unless you're running a turbo or something that sees a lot of temperature. Look at factory oil change intervals on performance cars that call for synthetic from the factory.. They're typically 5k or more.
I'll change dino (non-synthetic) oil at 3k on an older car. For vehicles that don't see many hours/miles, once a year as long as they're used for under 50 hours.

The manufacturer recommendation for both my Toyota and Ram are 5,000 and 8,000 respectively for dino.

Once the silicon content rises, it is just like lapping compound in your engine. Silicon, think sand.

On my new 2007 MINI, for the first oil change, I tried twice to get those jokers at the dealership to change my oil before they said it was due. They'd just plug the key fob into their computer and say, it's not ready yet -- it'll tell you when. First oil change -- 15,000 miles.

I participated in the Mobil 1 pilot in the mid 70's. You sent them samples (every 5,000 miles if I recall right) and they told you what to do.
I had a 1975 Dodge with the 225 CID 6 cylinder - I drove it 75,000 miles during the program and my oil samples were still within specs when I finally changed the oil. Reports from Mobil always said oil within specs, change oil filter and top off oil level.
I kept the car until it had over 200,000 miles and only sold it because it (always) got poor gas mileage (20MPG).
Guess what oil I still use - but now I change it on a normal schedule.
