Hard to surf the net after being eaten by wild animals but if it has to happen, then I would rather surf first.

Then why do so many people have a problem with "Than"?

I try to spell correctly, I think it aides in clarity of communication. It's not a 'peeve' but I do laugh a bit when someone has issues with their 'breaks.' Some folks ask if they need supplemental 'breaks.' The smarta$$ in me wants to respond that I don't need any supplemental 'breaks', enough things break without needing assistance.

A sailor on one of the web sites went on at length about the problems he was having with his wench. A good time was had by all in the ensuing discussion.

ESL students have pointed out that 'sheet' and 'beach' are particularly challenging words to learn.

I too find it funny how many fracture the English language. I think it comes from having a MIL who was an English teacher.
But making light of people's errors can be hazardous to your lifestyle!

"Then and than?" I'm a culprit but it is just accidental. Sometimes it's the darn spell checker. It doesn't know which one I want to use.

I don't care much for airing pet peeves regarding spelling and sentence structure. If I can understand what's being conveyed, I'm fine with just about anything. But - there had to be one right - Here's mine: Posts with no punctuation and all lower case letters. No offense meant to anyone that uses that style of writing - I just tend to skip over it. Maybe I'm lazy but it's hard for me to read on the iPhone app - and even on the laptop. I'm sure there is a good reason folks write that way, but I don't know what it could be other than a broken shift key and missing period and dash or comma keys.

I don't post on net forums cause I don't write well and I don't want people making fun of me. I don't want to camp next to them ether.

Spell checker is the first thing I disable on any new device. It will often "correct" to an "incorrect".

And I like to often write in a vernacular that goes with the story or post or whatever. It is understandable but still proper, I think. If ya git my drift.

steve you are just being picky you should try to be more forgiving for those who write in that style I mean what difference does it make if you can read it you also state that you do not care how someone writes you should just go with the flow okay

Because there is often a link between poor spelling and a person having Dyslexia,
I look to read for the intended message and NOT being a part of the uninformed Spelling Police.

I read a recent study by a college that had intentional misspellings in a paper.
They found that 99% of all people that read the paper understood the message being conveyed. Also many did not even recanonize many of the misspellings.

A forum is a very informal place. Strict spelling, grammar, verbiage, sentence structure and punctuation is not expected. If anyone expects these things, they should not be on a forum.

We will see more of the texting short-cut words in coming days. It is sometimes amazing how messages are even conveyed between people when words are chipped up by many that text all day.

Enjoy the Journey.
Life is too short to worry about someone else s spelling.
