Well speaking as a Catholic.. I seriously suspect you really do NOT want to know what the Pope has to say about this.... (I wonder ... Just what does it take to make the highest ranking preacher in the church cuss... This would come close I'm sure)

Frankly.. I'm mixed.. My daughter's 1st marraige was a civil ceremony (Vegas Wedding Chapel) and her divorce,, about 2 years later.. Also Vegas. Since it was not a church wedding all she had to do to make the church happy was fill out a form.

Her 2nd wedding was... last month.. It was supposed to be a "Church" Wedding, however.. The Catholic Church here as a couple of strange rules.. One of which is "A church wedding has to be held inside the church building" Where I come from (Along with my daughter) Our pastor believed that God was present all over, NOT just inside the building. Also,, to slightly paraphrase a song I rather like (God wrote the rocks)

Men built the building

GOD built the trees in the park.

So she got the judge to do it,,, And Fr. to witness.

Home is where I park it!
