2013 Honda CRV License Plate Holder In the Way of 6 pin connector

I have been using a flat 4 connector between the RV and toad but want to upgrade to a 6 pin on the toad. I have a Blue Ox tow plate with a couple of rods that extend forward to fasten a plug to.

PROBLEM - the license plate holder is about 1-2" too low so I can't get the plug on those rods unless I do some kind of mod. The back of the holder is molded to fit around the bumper so that would have to be modified along with the removal of some kind of anchor piece at the bottom of the holder that attaches to a permanent nut.

Has anyone found an easy way to work around this issue and still keep the plate holder?

BTW...SD requires a front plate so that ain't an option. LOL

I've got the 2012 and don't know if they made any changes with the 2013 model year. I don't recall having any issues using the two studs on the Blue Ox base plate to mount my 6 pin connector. I will take a look in the AM and see if I did and get back to you.

What I do remember is those pesky yellow clips holding the front clip on.... they were a PITA.

Thanks for taking a look. I think there were changes between 2012 & 2013 but we will see what you find.

I had the same trouble with my Jeep. I believe I took 2 small metal straight brackets and attached to the 2 screw location on Blue Ox and then just attached the 6 pin holder a little lower.

Still had minimal clearance and eventually just removed the license plate holder since it was not required by law.

I had mine installed by a Hitch Shop through the Honda Dealer when I bought the car. But here is what mine looks like. I am not aware of a problem during the install. Hope this helps.

Don that is what I was thinking. Metal piece with two holes cut to length to drop it low enough to clear. Or come by my place, have 16lb sledge that will make bracket budge!

It looks like your attachment points were bend down just a bit. I think that will probably by the final answer. It isn't a big bend so I don't think I will need to heat them up to make that bend.

I was thinking of fabricating a plate because I don't have a big sledge to make a small "adjustment". LOL

We just bought a 2013 Honda CRV and it doesn't have a license plate holder on the front! Is that an optional item?

Mine came standard. I'm guessing your CRV may have been owned by someone living in a state where a front plate was not required. I owned my previous car in Alberta where a front plate is not required. As such, the plate holder was history when I bought it used.
I'm sure if you need one, it can be had from Honda at a reasonable price.

Thanks Dennis! I'll check with our local Honda dealer on that. The DW has a cute tag that she would like to put up there!

Don, sorry I have not gotten back to you but DW had medical emergency and has been in hospital for past few days.

I did bend mine down a bit to clear the license plate holder.

BTW...

What did you use to cover the pin slots? Looks good!

The cheap ones you get from Blue Ox have long since been lost.

First...Best wishes your wife!

Second...did you have to do anything special like heat them up or did they bend pretty easy?

TANX!
