I have seen the newer Vette with 1953-style body - very sharp!!

Got a new 1977 black on black for my 16th birthday it's a miracle I didn't wash the paint off it. Maybe not the best thing to give a 16 year old for a first car.

Thumbs up

In the early 80's I was in the Navy, and traded my POS Mercury Monarch (nee Granada) in on a well-used 1975 Pontiac Firebird with the Poncho V-8. That old 'Bird already had some 70,000 miles on her, and had clocked up 213,000 by the time I traded it in. Went literally coast-to-coast twice during my hitch. Had a blast, made out like a bandit on travel time and pay! Only got one speeding ticket.
It's tied with a little '68 AMC AMX two-seater as the most fun car I ever had. The AMX was quick as a scalded cat up to it's 104MPH top end (AMX's were street legal dragsters basically) but the Firebird was more refined and much faster and more comfortable. I tended to shift both through the gears, nevermind they had auto trannies.
Gosh, I miss those days......

My son's first car was an 80's camaro. It was made in Canada and had a split speedo with kph on one side and mph on the other. The really funny thing though, was the stock 4 cylinder engine. He had fat tires on the back and I"m pretty sure he couldn't smoke them.

I had a '75, silver with burgundy interior and a built-in 8 track in the console. I purchased it new with my dad as a co-signer. It was the summer before my senior year in high school. I sold a horse trailer, and a camper shell to get the down payment. Sold the horse later that year to make a few payments.
