2019 Travel

Planning a trip west in late April. New to the RV world. Owned the motor home less than a year now. Leaving Treasure Island, FL, heading to I-10 and then west to TX. With no experience whatsoever, I will be grateful for any suggestions for special RV Parks and other interesting/fun places to visit on the way west. Hoping to spend as much time near or at the Gulf Coast during our
journey west and the return trip. Planning to be traveling 30+ days during our first multi-week trip.
We have taken several 3 to 5 day trips in FL and GA so far. Nothing involving several weeks. Look forward to your suggestions.

Safe Travels to all of you and Happy New Year 2019

Stay off I 10 in La. if you want to keep your rig in one piece. Heard that from lots of people coming east this year!

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!

We haven't been that route yet so can't help with that. Just noticed that you are kinda new on IRV2 and wanted to say hello! Have fun and keep her between the ditches!

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

Thanks for the tip. Apparently, LA must have a need to spend some money on their roads.

Austin traffic can be a nightmare. Two parks I recommend are McKinney Falls State Park on the East side. I do not think they have full hook ups but water/electric and a dump. La Hacienda on the West side is nice. I would also recommend that you check out Fredericksburg just West of Austin. Cool little town and laid back hill country feel. Enchanted Rock and Luckenbach are worth a visit. Also, lots of wineries in the area.

Let's see - take a few days to explore New Orleans, especially the WWII Museum. We stayed at Pine Crest RV Park in Slidell, La, just across the lake from New Orleans. Once into Texas Ft. Stockton RV Park in Ft. Stockton is a nice stop - they have an on-site restaurant that serves great food!

THey are only going as far West as Austin. Ft Stockton is a little out of their way.

You said you would like to stay around the gulf. We stayed at Camp Gulf close to Destin, FL. The spaces are tight, but you are right on the gulf and the beach there (at least before the last hurricane) was absolutely beautiful. Looked like the beaches of the Caribbean. The only place in Texas that we've stayed is Oasis RV Resort just outside of Amarillo. It was a nice place to stop for a couple of days while there was a huge wind storm taking place!!! LOL We had planned to only stay there over night but extended our stay due to 50-60 mph winds.

Where ever you go enjoy your trip!!!!
