Apollo 11's Eagle landed on the moon!

"Houston! Tranquility Base here, the Eagle has landed!"

I was in Vietnam with the 25th Infantry Division at the time watching the landing on AFVN. I was 20 years old.

What were you doing then?

I was in with DW in the delivery room at Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle. I was going back and forth between that and the TV, waiting to see which "launch" would go first. As it turned out, they both "lifted off" forty years ago today.

We actually just got off the phone with our daughter, wishing her a happy fortieth. (Makes me at least sixty, doesn't it? I wish!)

Whaler, Been there and done that twice! "Welcome Home!" Thank you for your service!

The 2nd time for me was easier when you knew how to work the system.

I had 6 months in country by the time you got there and I was just starting to notch my short stick.

I was twelve years old and all of us were celebrating my mother's birthday. The moon landing was a bonus. Mom and Dad have gone on to their reward.

What an amazing accomplishment and a proud day for America!

We were on the beautiful island of Guam. I was working in the boiler room of the USS Proteus, AS-19, a submarine tender. My lovely wife was following me all over creation and worked at the Red Carpet, a nice hotel restaurant on the island. Back then we had no kids, no bills, hardly any belongings, and but a few wrinkles! Wow, so simple.

We'd love to see Guam now, after so many years . . . and we'd love to see America again achieve something as incredible as it did on 20 July, 1969.

Driver, why don't you start a threat that sticks, to see how many vn vets are out here. Might run across former friends.

Remember it well .. Dad and I sat up to watch it (in Black n White of course ) ...

The next day I got the first "report" that it was a hoax , from a couple of old gentlemen who worked for us on the family farm ..

Dont remember the exact words , but one of them basically said "Look at the moon and see how small it is , now how's anybody gonna get on that ??"
