$8.00 a gallon for gas?

We've all thought about RVing with $5.00 a gallon fuel prices, but would you really be able to keep traveling if we reached $8.00 per gallon?

I know it's going to be hard to not talk about politics here, but please try.

Can you imagine what the effect on the economy would be!
If gas hits that mark then I believe its time for a little "Tar and Feather Action",,,, I won't get political!

Iran could never close the straight of hormuz.... not for a month, not even for a week.

The USN would have all their lil "patrol boats" turned into fissh condos within a week, and all their nearby shore bases smoking holes in the ground.

Say whay u want, but even our current administration has not hesitated to project our power.

I'll keep on RVing no matter what. As long as we continue along the same path, we will continue to have no control over fuel prices and will be at the mercy of the world market's gyrations. I choose not to stress out over it, because there is nothing that can be done about it. Instead, I'll focus on the things I CAN have an effect on.

I've already begun to think about such things even after rising above $3.00/gallon again. Now that we are near $4.00/gallon, I'm definitely making plans to move in that direction.

My realistic consumption is @ 10 MPG pulling the trailer, and @ 17 not pulling the trailer. The difference is @ 41%

Since my van already has a sofabed in rear, I'm considering leaving the trailer at home. I will remove a piece of rear door glass and build in a 5000 BTU air conditioner. The kids will sleep in their tent on the ground.

I see nothing political in the price of fuel. The president does not set the price nor does congress nor does any governmental branch or agency. Any attempt to control it artificially will result in gas lines. shortages, and/or rationing like we saw in the 70's.

RVing is not a necessity for life or liberty. RVing is neither a right nor an entitlement. Even though we are entitled to the "pursuit of happiness" we still must bear the all of the costs of our pursuits. If we cannot pay the costs, we will have to pursue our happiness in other ways.

If gas goes to $8/gal someone will ask if you will still be RV'ing when gas goes to $16/gal. I will at whatever it goes to as long as fuel supply is available.

Gas isn't expensive, the dollar is very weak.

Wow some of you must have BIG bucks. Anything over 5 bucks a gallon will keep us off the road with a moho that is impossible to even give away.. If I could sell it now and not loose my shirt I would.. I dont love rv'ing that much. We still have a home to keep up and we're not about to give that up for any travel pleasure.. I may have to turn this money pit into a tool shed !! Just my 2 cents..... Carry on..

I dunno'....we didn't buy our M/home because of the price of fuel. And we won't sell it for that reason either. As I see more and more of our friends and relatives in major health crises - or worse - I consider what the price to live life really is. Do we wait for fuel prices to come down....someday? Or do we wait for the doctor to come in and review our test results and schedule a semi-private room? We're just not going to wait around for either event to occur, if we can help it.

We are blessed to live in an area of the country where a wonderful campground up in the mountains is about an hour or so from our home....don't have to drive a thousand miles to enjoy the outdoors and the m/home. But we still plan to take a couple of extended, high mileage trips this year....and we sure ain't wealthy folks, that's for sure. But somehow we'll find a way. And, God willin' and the creeks don't rise, that semi-private room will just have to wait a while. FWIW...

Gas won't go to $8.00 a gallon for a long time to come, you may see $5.00 on the West coast though.

We have plenty of oil in fact we even closed a refinery that makes gas. The problem is the greedy speculators on Wall Street. They are dictating the price of gas and a barrel of oil. The higher it goes the more money they make. Again it is GREED.

As far as rving goes, present gas prices and $5.00 a gallon isn't a lot if you really look at. You can still RV maybe just a little closer to home or go someplace and stay put. If you think US prices are high go to Canada where gas is $1.28 A LITER and there are approximately 4 liters in a gallon. In 2010 we went to Alaska and back, 11,361 miles and it cost us $5,000 for fuel but it was a trip of a lifetime.

For those that want to park their RV's or get rid of them think again. Just try to imagine how much it would cost for a fly drive trip. Air fare, hotel costs, 3 meals a day, and a rental car. Not only do you have to worry about bed bugs but all that food that you don't know what you are eating.

Enjoy your RV and be thankful that you have it. Don't forget we live in the greatest country in the world inspite of everything else.
