9 days and this snowbird is migrating south!

We still have 9 days to go before we bust out of here and head south for the winter. We are excited though because this is our 1st Snowbirding as we move into the semi-retirement category.

0500 this morning D/W says "I hate to tell you this, but we have snow on the ground outside".

Something just tells me this winter in the north country is going to be a long and hard one and we are glad to be escaping it. Friends of ours already in place in RGV.

Are you going south? Left yet?

Congrats on your first winter south, I bet you'll love it. This will be our third winter heading for the SW. Bringing the rig out of storage tomorrow, loading it up and heading out Thurs morning. New Mexico by Sunday night if all goes as planned.

We are heading out tomorrow - LOTS of snow on the ground here for us (Alberta) right now. We watch weather and travel when its sunny - and that means cold too. Tuesday looks good and sunny (and cold) for us to travel through MT and ID. Our go/no go is weather forecasted for Monida Pass (MT/ID border) on I15.

Drive safe!.

Safe travels !!!

Mike : Where at in NM do you winter? We kind of thought we would change locations each year to get a chance and experience different places. D/W has been reading and watching the balloon launches and festival in NM so that is on our radar sometime.
Have a great trip !!!

Brian: Do you always leave this late in the season? Sounds like some interesting driving or perhaps challenging. Be safe!! and have a great trip!
Where are you headed?

At work today, a co-worker who as at the age of retirement mentioned to me that he talked to his D/W yesterday about what we are doing and now they also are interested in getting an RV and doing the same thing. They have never owned an RV so they thought perhaps rent one and see if they like it. I told him, come on along and join the crowd!! lol

Do you take the bypass from Boulder to Dillon? Miss a bunch of big grades by going around Butte.

Not always this late in the season - we are a couple of weeks behind due to family matters....

We heading to Rio Bend RV and Golf resort outside of El Centro CA. I prefer the feel of a smaller/rural park. We are outside of El Centro on I8 towards San Diego. In the mornings we ride our bicycles outside the park through the farmers fields, watching the Blue Angels practice formation and touch and go's in preparation for the air shows. NAF El Centro is close. I grew up in Cold Lake Alberta watching the CF18's, the noise is soothing, to me...

Yes - and we sometimes bypass Utah by heading to Twin Falls and south to Ely, then Vegas (Hwy 93).

Dick, That would be a great adventure for sure. Not sure the route you take but in any event, certainly see a lot of country !!!

We tried to get Florida this year, on stand-by for many CG's for a long time but never solidified a spot so had to go to plan B. RGV.

Hope to make Florida next winter though. Keeping our fingers crossed. Talk about hard finding open spots!

Hope it all comes together for you and have a great trip!!
James

We don't spend the whole winter in NM. When we head out this Thurs, we'll spend probably 4 nights going through stops in Iowa and Kansas. Then stopping at Santa Rosa State Park in NM where we haven't been before. Then on to Oliver Lee State Park near Alamagordo for 4 nights. We really like this park for the desert and mountain views, great hiking. Then a few days boondocking in the Organ Mountains. Two days reservations at Sunny Acres in Las Cruces . . . a couple fun craft brew pubs in the area and lots more to do. After that we have about a week open before we'll show up in Southern AZ. By Christmas we'll be in San Diego county with our daughter, her husband and family. We've also enjoyed the Albueququ (sp) area, Santa Fe, Galllup, and other parts of NM.

One year from now we'll be loading up for our first-ever escape. Need to suffer through one more winter first.

Happy travels and enjoy your time down south.

9 days to go! ......... I'm envious.
We've got another 10 weeks before the big trip south, then 3 months of shorts & t-shirts.
Our 8th year and can not wait.
Enjoy your trip and semi-retirement.

Hey folks we live in Santa Fe, NM and we're also heading south to Quartzite for a while this winter. I understand our winters are nothing compared to what you folks up north have, but the idea of Ts and shorts in Jan/Feb is very appealing.
