A great day!
Today, Carol (my DW) and I had one of those most wonderful days. We spent it with Kayla, our niece, who will be fifteen in a couple months. We drove around in the rain, took pictures of old barns, walked through a forest preserve, ate lunch at her favorite place and walked around our little downtown taking more pictures.
After we got back to our house, Kayla and I went on a nice long motorcycle ride, then she helped Carol bake some cupcakes. We all enjoyed a good dinner, then took our dog for a walk in the forest by our house. Finally we ended the day with a campfire and some s'mores in our firepit in our woods.
Days like this really make me second guess my dreams of moving away from the flatlands.
Our family is so special, and I've been so close to this lil girl for so long...
And even as she's growing up, that shows no signs of changing.

That sounds like as much a perfect day as one could have.

Ain't it the truth...
And then as we are walking back with the dog, we go past the "for sale" sign in my yard.
And she looks at me with those great big lil girl eyes and says "you can't move Uncle Jim"
Dayum, how can life suck so hard when it's soo damn good?
Some days I want to get in the coach and just head for the western horizon...
Other days we talk about moving to a stick and brick house in near the front range in colorado.
And then there are those days when we resign ourselves to staying in the land of "corn on the right, soybeans on the left" and getting a smaller house, on a larger property, with a big pole barn for our toys, maybe about 15 minutes closer to Kayla's house.
And she says "you're gonna buy me a horse for my birthday, right Uncle Jim?"
Gawd I hate horses... but I love Kayla.

I have the opposite problem, my favorite niece moved away from home to be near her fiance while he finishes school. I sure miss her asking Uncle D for something. How dare she grow up on me?
I'm kind of envious your perfect day.
Now that niece is gone I live vicariously through my friends little ones.
