A higher power will determine if he is the new head coach.

It's a sad day for the Penn State group. At least he died peacefully and didn't have to be humiliated by the press and court systems again.

Rest in Peace Pappa Joe

By not reporting suspected child abuse to the police -- as he should have, Joe reported it to his boss, essentially washing his hands of the case.

This isn't hero behavior. His firing was fully justified by his inaction.

Too bad about his "humiliation" -- but if Joe had gone to the police in 2002 (when he was told) further abuse might have been prevented.

GODSPEED Joe PA! And [moderator edit] with the Penn State administration for throwing you under the bus after your long devoted career to the university.

I believe Coach did the best he could when he "fired Sanduski" in 99 after this all came out. What about the Police dept that was there when Sanduski admitted and apologized to a boy and his mother for his behavior in front of the cops. Trust me there is much more then meets the eye here!!!!!!!!!!!

This is not the way you deserved to go out, with your head bowed in shame.
But, with a big smile, and your head and arms raised high with pride and honor.

WE ARE...............

If you're talking about the 23-page Grand Jury transcript, I read it. Here's what I found:

- Assistant coach Mike McQueary told Joe Paterno that he saw Sandusky fondling a boy.

- Joe said (from his court deposition) -- "I didn't want to interfere with their weekends, (so) either Saturday or Monday, I talked to my boss, Tim Curley, by phone, saying, 'Hey we got a problem' and I explained the problem to him," Paterno said.

- Curley, in his deposition, said he did not think the incident constituted a crime worthy of calling the police, despite admitting to the grand jury that he knew Sandusky had been seen showering naked with a boy and inappropriately horsing around and wrestling with him. "I never reported it to University Police. I didn't think that it was a crime at the time," Curley testified.

- About a week and a half after McQueary told Joe Paterno, McQuery met with Tim Curley and Gary Schultz (VP of Finance & Business + oversees the University police). McQuery repeated his story. Curley and Schultz said they would look into it.

- Two weeks later Curley told McQuery that they had taken away Sandusky's locker room keys.

That about it?

What you read is the presentment ,not the full transcript which presents evidence in the most favorable light in order to get a judge to agree to hold a trial..while mr Paterno said he didn't want to bother anybody on the weekend he actually called curly and Schultz the next day..Mr McQuery by his own admission did not use fondling when he described scene to Mr Paterno. I think if we talk about facts ,not what has been reported than we may be able to make a more reasoned judgement.[moderator edit]

It is a sad day when anyone dies. While I have an opinion about that whole mess, I just don't feel it is appropriate to discuss it on this thread.
