Abbreviations

Hat do all the abbreviations mean (kind of like I have to ask grand kids about texting abbreviations)? I know DW means wife but why the D before? Help, I need a dictionary for newbies!

SOS - Standard Operating Procedure
SOS - Help, emergency, distress
SOS - Secretary of State
SOS - Silicon On Sapphire
SOS - Systems On Silicon
SOS - System Of Systems
SOS - Server Operating System
SOS - Sophisticated Operating System

Abbreviations mean what the person typing types. Now whether the one reading can understand them is a different thing.

Yep sure can if you are a yodeler and/or into yodeling then that is what it might mean to you.
Like I said the person typing knows what they mean but not everyone reading might think the same thing and probably less then half a lot of times understands some of them.

I know what you meant, there are some more common abbreviations and sometimes we can guess if its dear or fixing socks based on the rest of the context, and with abbreviations that have more then one common meaning, same thing, if I said DL and pdf its probably download, if I said DL and mention the haunted mansion, probably Disneyland. There are some head scratchers. I've bought ricola does that count for yodelling, don't know but as a short haired taller broad shouldered man (luckily shoulders are larger then waist size still), I don't think most people would call me a pretty lassie. But who knows ymmv
