Has anyone ever been on an African Safari (not in a RV)? I am especially interested on safaris for disabled people, but any information would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jack

Years ago I was on a photographic safari to Kenya. It was a great trip and one which a handicapped person could go easily. We traveled in mini-vans with a large open top - we could stand and photograph animals through the opening. We could NOT get out of the vehicle to photograph - too dangerous. The parks where we stopped were easy to get around, although the baths were not wheelchair accessible. Our safari used Nairobi as a centerpoint and we returned to the hotel there every few days. We often were allowed to take only a change of clothes with us in the van. I washed clothes - underwear, shirt, pants, socks, etc. each evening so I would have clean clothing the next day. Ironing, forget it.
The safari was an unforgettable experience, and I would say - go for it. You won't regret it.

Thanks doggievet for sharing your safari experience. Sounds just like what I'd like to do some day!

I did some internet searching and came up with a few good sites regarding African Safaris. The first one deals with an 8 day handicapped safari http://www.krugerpark.co.za/Speciali...traveller.html
It shows people in wheel chairs out in the bush. It's nice to know that accommodating the disabled has reached this level of service. I figured roughly, at a bare minimum, that it would cost $6,000 just for air travel and the tour fare, for two to make this trip from Baltimore.

The next site is an all encompassing site dealing with Kruger National Park,
http://www.krugerpark.co.za/
This South African park is evidently a very popular place for safaris to see the "Big Five" (the lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo)

Maybe some one else can share their safari experience/ plans too.

Thanks,

Jack
