Here I sit on my front porch in the lovely mountains of Western NC, watching a light summer rain to keep things cool and green. As I watch the slow drizzle there are 18 wild turkeys strolling around in the front yard foraging for their morning meal.
When I opened the front door to sit out here, 3 does with 2 fawns bolted from under a crabapple tree, apparently I interrupted their breakfast of the nearly ripe fruit that had fallen to the ground.
As I peck away on the keyboard of my laptop using a wireless connection hooked to my Hughes net satellite modem, I'm in amazement how the luxuries of the modern 21st century's technologies can still allow us the pleasures of mingling with nature at its best.

 Yes indeed Life is good when you can spend moments like that My wife and I have been at our camper for over a week now on vacation and it is just great to sit by the campfire each nite and do as I'm doing now sitting under a nice shade tree with a lite breeze blowing checking things out on the computer We have our camper parked at a perminant site and enjoyit a great deal on our weekly visits but this week has been the best of all have fun

How many gobberlers for that November meal?  You must be backin time in your domain. City folk miss what you have. We have the turks and silver fox and occasional run away cow looking in living room window.  Enjoy

We were leaving our son's apartment two weeks ago, he lived in Colonial Heights, VA. Accross the road was a flock of 20-30 wild turkeys foraging in the field. A few miles further along and we saw a dead fox on the roadway. You'ar right. We are encroaching on the native habitat.

Lol Richard,I didn't know you were so poetic! Lovely words and scenery. I would like to have a report though from your front porch in maybe Jan.or Feb.  The mountains are pretty to visit but we prefer the mild winters on the coast.Its not rare for it to be warm enough even at Christmas for the grand kids to play outside with short sleeve shirts on! Last Thanksgiving it was so warm here we couldn't even keep their shoes on them. And the occasional dusting of snow here drives everyone crazy and they close the town down! Its great we all have the choice to live where we want to and when we don't like our local weather-we can go camping!

Nice post. When we had our TT some years ago, we camped often in Western NC and always appreciated the beauty of the landscape.
Now that we live on Smith Mountain Lake, we get to enjoy similar sights. Deer routinely graze in our back yard while I sit on the deck and look out over the beautiful lake. I love the times when I can sit in my boat waiting for the next striped bass to hit, sipping coffee and looking at the Peaks of Otter in the distance.
Yes, life is good!
