Alaska 1966

I was just sitting here remembering when in 1966 I traveled to Alaska towing a trailer and on each corner that was rather tricky would be a sign saying the amount of people killed there. This was in the Yukon. Does anyone remember those signs? Just as you relaxed and it seemed all was fine, along came another corner and sign. It made the trip very tense but something I'll never forget. I never got tired driving.

Before my time (as a driver) but I have watched lots of films about the construction of and experience afterwards. Quite fascinating. Makes me wish you could take a trip in time and do it as it was.

It was a great trip and you did realize how remote it was. I'm not sure when the signs came down but they kept you on your toes. As remote as it was, I met a truck camper returning from AK who pulled over and being the small world that it is I knew him. I'll never forget it.

We traveled in a caravan a couple of years ago and there was an older couple in our group who did the trip to AK in the 70's on a motorcycle and side car. Now THAT would be memorable I'm sure.
