It's amazing what has transpired in the last fifty years. My Grandfather could never have imagined.

Interesting comments, not exactly what I expected, but it does show I guess just how diverse our interests are. We all know that are world is changing. What we buy today is an antique in 6 months. The message I drew from it was that we all, meaning our country, business, or us personally need to understand what's going on in our world and plan accordingly. How many people do you know who are completely lost in a conversation with their grandchildren? They have no idea what an I pod is or a download, or a gig. It's almost as if different generations speak a different language. Personally I don't want to be one of those people.
A couple weeks ago I heard that only 8% of the people who were chronically unemployed over 2 years would never find a job! The problem is our world has changed. The jobs they once had are no longer there. They maybe in India but they are never coming back. We have millions of people who need to be trained for jobs that literally didn't exist 2 years ago.
How is our RV world going to change? I think it's obvious that fuel prices will continue to rise. RV manufactures need to look ahead and make changes. How many large motor homes with 600 HP motors do you think will be selling as diesel prices rise above $5 a gallon next year? We are putting off buying a new car until next year. The changes that we'll see in 2012 appear to be well worth waiting for.
Remember years ago when our country was number one? How many times do you hear that we rank 30 in the worlds countries in many things including education, health, or life longevity? Is that really where we want to be?
I see this video as a wake up call for all of us. We have a wonderful standard of living. We are certainly the envy of the world. However, if we are going to maintain that, we need to start thinking ahead. That's what I saw in this video.

Flamesuit on. I'm trying to couch this carefully: As a neighbour to the north, I think that this is a misperception. I think that your great, strong country is really showing its underbelly: poverty, almost the lowest for standards of health, weak banking and financial sectors, and big crime.
In Canada, we have our challenges, too, of course. My point is only that I don't think that the perception is US = pot of gold anymore. Living in the US has some terrific advantages and privileges, but it comes with a hefty pricetag these days. I hope that can be turned around and the US can be a leader in education, healthcare, equity and financial sectors, amongst other attributes.
BTW, Bear is a US AND Canadian citizen, as are our kids. We are proud of their American heritage. But we live in Canada by choice.

Bear - I can only offer an opinion from the inside on one item in your comments, and know we can disagree on a friendly basis. Healthcare in the US is far superior to anything, anywhere on the globe. I base this observation on 40+ years in the healthcare industry on all levels from hands on care to administration and as a consultant. I've been in hospitals and clinics all over North and South American, the Islands and in the Middle East and Europe. Albeit there are fine individual healthcare providers in each region or country (many of them trained here in the US), overall the US has the finest equipment, highest education standards, and access to care. Can and should we do better? You bet. I hope that every person, no matter where they be, or the income level, have access to care. No offense intended, just throwing my 2 cents out there.

No offence taken to Terapin, the writer. Bear is watching from the sidelines and tells me not to mess with Americans (him included!)
I am a health care provider, and also involved in liability and regulation at a provincial level. I sure know how terrific the care can be in the US. There are some very big, big money institutions in the US that can provide top-notch care, and the US certainly has some educational institutions that are world class. But I think that issue of liability and access to care hamper the delivery of care in a profound way, at least to the average working family. Health care delivery in the US is hugely, hugely affected by provider and institutional perception of liability and access to care of uninsured folks. I think US maternal and newborn care is a great example of how thoroughly liability and access to care has shaped health care for childbearing women and babies.
(Here in Canada I see a parallel shame in how First Nations peoples have been, and are, treated).
Anyhow, I could chat about this all day, but won't. I don't want to cause tension in this terrific forum. I've really appreciated the community and knowledge base.

You are correct about health care in the US if you have money. Our health care costs about double what it cost anywhere else in the world. The problem is that by last count 50 Million people out of our population of 300 Million are left without health care! Some can't afford it, but for millions of people it's simply not available. In my opinion we don't have the best health care in the world until it's available to all of our citizens.

Let me start by saying I love the US of A. The problem alot of americans have with the world is they have not seen it. People are people no matter where they live. They get up go to work if they have a job. They want the best for their children and want to live in peace. We have a very narrow view of the world here in the US. The world has changed, is changing. You either change along with it or die.
