Unhappy Amazon Bringing Robots to Fulfillment Centers

Interesting article. Might affect workampers if it's a success. They'll still need some of us but maybe not as many.

My son has been with Amazon for about 2-1/2 years (software engineer), and moved over to Kiva about six months ago. He sent us the following email about ten days ago. He said one of the most stunning changes is the absence of noise in the FC sections where the robots work. Just a very low level humming. The article also points out that Amazon actually projects an increase in hiring with the robot introduction. There will be far fewer pickers and stowers, of course, but notable increases in other areas. Interesting.

"...There are a bunch of articles coming out today highlighting Kiva's roll in Amazon's holiday fulfillment. There's a fun B-Roll video from one of our larger warehouses from the Time article, its just a video of the robots in action, no talking or anything, just the quiet hum of the robots gliding around..."

Ah, but are you sure the e-mail was actually from your son and not from a robot programmed to write as him?
