Remember. We may all be created equal but after the doc slaps your butt, you are on your own. You may not know it but you are espousing the socialist and communist 'collective' philosophy. Nobody paid the $50,000 debt left by my dad and my mom would rather have died than to expect someone else to foot the bill.
I don't agree with you in this one. As a society we have a duty to the other members of society. But, only to a point. Still, if it was someone I love, and it has been, I wouldn't want them to suffer and die becasue people more fortunate then them didn't want to give up a few pennies for there well being. This is of course only to the point of someone who is ill because of a bad stroke of luck. It gets too complicated after that and I'm not a good enough typest to explain my postion.

Regarding your tax situation, is the $30,055 your gross income or your taxable income? It sounds more like your taxable income. Are you married, single, head of household, or other?

Your simple question brings about the complexity of the OP's video. There are so many variables that a relatively simple question can't be answered without another whole set of questions being sent right back at you. Whenever we deal in broad generalities we try to put answers out there without asking the other questions.

I have no idea who is responsible for this quote, but it's a good one, "All generalities, including this one are untrue." Kind of fits this thread, doesn't it?
That's from line 22 of my 1040 form under total income.. I'm single, not married, and have one duduction for 100 dollars becasue I own land and I can duduct 100 dollars as wear/tare/and fuel used to go check on my land. And, that's it.

Remember Katrina FEMA set up all those trailers but then got sued.

In California, Welfare ATM Cards Used In Casinos : NPR
and in casinos.
That's your tax dollars at work, and your government not working.
I agree it's too bad the media has to undercover this when the government should be auditing itself.

ETA: Aha! Good old Arnie is ON IT:

Reporting from Sacramento — California welfare recipients will no longer be able to use their state-issued debit cards at medical marijuana shops, psychics, massage parlors and many other businesses whose services have been deemed "inconsistent" with the goals of the program.

The Schwarzenegger administration sent a letter to county welfare directors Monday announcing that ATMs and point-of-sale card readers in such business will be removed from the network that accepts California's Electronic Benefits Transfer cards.
(DUH!)
http://articles.latimes.com/2010/nov...cards-20101102

Like the guy in the video said, how would you like to take vacations on free money?
I would put that blame on the government before I put it on the welfare recipients.

Yep. That's your tax dollars at work. Being stolen. Welfare recipients aren't the only ones stealing your money....checkout the severance packages and all-expense paid trips and dinners and first class flights &5 star hotels, and eight dollar coffees and forty dollar bottles of wine your politicians are spending.

Florida Rep. Alcee Hastings spent $24,730 in taxpayer money last year to lease a 2008 luxury Lexus hybrid sedan. Ohio Rep. Michael Turner expensed a $1,435 digital camera. Eni Faleomavaega, the House delegate from American Samoa, bought two 46-inch Sony TVs.

Happens in Canada too.

And yet you want the "rich" to pay even more to be misused! Fix the abuses before taxes are raised on anything. Keep feeding the pigs and they will take every cent you have.

So, what frosts your socks more?
The corruption of government officials, or welfare recipients?

Well, they will certainly take what they assess they 'need' from us, indeed.

No worries my friend. It is complicated. It doesn't take long in this life to realize that the well written bad idea can win debates and arguments, elections and so on. It doesn't make them right. If people would look far enough past their own circumstance they would see that the 30 year shift in wealth is only good for the wealthy few while the rest are weakened. As the shift continues we had all better leave a bundle to our children and their children, as it will become increasingly difficult to achieve.

I have not advocated redistributing anything. That is being done right now. Jobs are off shored and the monied make more money, US workers make less. This is the reality of a global economy and bad policies. But bluster and defense of where we are and are headed as somehow being the "American Way" and I got mine - is a narrow view and does not bode well for our future.

I do not condone nor do I condemn those with or without wealth on a wholesale basis. As Caveman said. It's complicated. But as more and more money is concentrated in the hands of fewer and fewer, the feudal system can't be too far behind. We are likely, if not already, to be the first American generation where the majority of children will not do as well as we did. And yet a few continue to do better than ever. Can we honestly lay that at our feet and our children's feet and say where did I go wrong and why are you so inept and lazy.
