...And the waters rose...
...and fishing in the street.
We have been experiencing some heavy rains, heaviest since 1995. The below pictures are of our neighborhood....
...and then there are the idiots that think they have a motor boat and want to create wakes.

Well, it's a Wrangler. A good underblast is just a healthy thing to do.
Did I hear you have a folding bote? My uncles Gunnar and Lars had one.
Hey, the Wrangler could troll for Ludefisk!
Sorry Wayne. Hope yer basement is dry.

We are about 40 miles South of Houston and 14 miles from Galveston. After Hurricane Carla in 1961 Texas City built a 17 mile levee around the city with 8 special Archimedes principle pumps that would pull the water uphill and dump it into Moses Lake. Moses lake has a flood gate and with prior meteorology reporting can lower the gate at low tide preventing the bay from rising the water. After pumping into the lake the gate can then be opened at low tide and let the water flow out.
On the news this evening it stated we had 11+ inches of rain today and it was the worse since 1995. It is very difficult for the pumps to keep up with that much rain. Then there is the factor of people throwing trash out on to the highway and this affect not only the drain storm system the water flows through to get to the pumps but it affects the pumps themselves by clogging the grate and preventing the water from being pulled out and into the lake.
Here is something for you about Galveston. The 1900 storm took 6000 live in Galveston. The city did something about it. The built a sea wall 17 feet high AND THEN they raised the city 17 feet. you can read this link about Raising Galveston.
Right now it is almost 10 p.m. and the streets are bare except for some really low lying areas. Tomorrow and Monday have 90% chance of rain so we are expecting some more street flooding. So far so good as the house is not flooded. I never knew I had a swimming pool in the back yard. Miya the Husky likes it.

And also in CA!!!!
We should invent a way to tilt this continent to better distribute the water.

We live full time (when not in our RV) on the north coast of the Dominican Republic. This last month we have had tremendous floods that have wiped out many bridges, roads and washed away multiple homes. Never in 12 years of living here have we seen so much water. There are still 15,000 people out of their homes. The total rain fall for the month of November has been over 50 inches of rain in our area, and that was all after November 10th. It will take months of drying out and rebuilding.
