With a cell phone, a land line (haven't had one for over 10 years) is just another bill for a redundant phone.

Dave, how do you block them?

This is more than a robo call. I do answer the phone, and no matter how long I wait, there is never anyone there. I'm getting calls from numbers that can't be traced. I have a lot of friends that complain about the same thing happening to them as well.

All of our calls are now screened by our answering machine with the announcement "due to the number of robo calls we now screen all of our calls". If it's anyone I want to talk to I'll pick up the phone. Caller ID is getting bad as well by the scammers with them being able to spoof phone numbers and names. One came in the other day almost the same name as my Mothers Doctor.

I am just about ready to take the land line out, it is almost worthless anymore.

Taking out the landline may not help. I'm getting just as many of these false calls on my cell phone.

It's a no win battle...the Do not call list has no enforcement and backing, so all the calls are starting again. Also, a lot of calls are routed through foreign call centers, and worse.....they have banks of ever changing phone lines.....impossible to block/trace for very long.

Our home phones are Panasonic, they can store and block up to 3,000 phone numbers. I'm not sure if they play a message or tone back to the calling phone but they quit calling after a few of their calls being blocked. I do know they hang up after one ring if it's a blocked number. And I'm also finding My Samsung S5 phone also has a blocking/ignore feature that works well.

With our Samsung Galaxy S5 cellphone, I use an app called "Block'Em". Works great. Once a number has called you, you can click on BLOCK or DO NOT BLOCK. It's free.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...palisade&hl=en

Another good app is Caller ID - it too is free:

These may not stop everything, but it makes life much easier.

That's about what we're finding too. Don't know if we can do that and still keep the high speed internet connection though.

Never give your number to a store, like
Lowes, that asks for your number at checkout, or put your name and number in those "win a car" boxes at the mall, or any other place that asks for your phone number.

Stores like Lowes say that it makes returning a product easier if they have your number to look up your receipt but anytime I have returned something without the receipt it has never been a problem and I do not give them my number. It is just a scam to get your number so they can sell it.

Select the number on the "recent calls" list and scroll down to "block this caller"
Can do that on a land line

We don't have a landline, but we do have high speed internet DSL through Centurytel/Centurylink. With DSL, we have VOIP, using Ooma. Ooma is required to collect taxes, which comes to about $3.75 a month. Works great. Centurylink offers a discounted rate for DSL, since we don't have a landline.

I only answer calls from numbers I recognize. If they don't leave a voicemail I know it was a junker or scam. Works great.

That sounds like a great idea. GET RID OF LANDLINE. They are useless. In this day and age there is no need for one. Get rid of them and 99% of your problems will be gone. I have had o e for over 10 years also.
