I have become interested in panning. Watched a few you videos. Any advice?

We have a place in the n. Ga. Mts on a cyrystal clear creek, that in all probability as some gold, i keep saying i'm going to try panning and have read lots on the internet, but haven't tried it yet.

You need to just take the time. Never know what you might find. It's always the unknown that makes the heart rate increase.

I have tried it a few times. Found a little gold. So, I am no expert.

That being said, I think you need to hunt where there is gold. That may mean joining a club with decent claims. Remeber that gold is heavy. It will settle out of moving water wherever it slows down. Inside of bends, around roots, etc... It will also settle toward bedrock.

Good luck, and have fun. It seemed like a lot of work to me. Of course, the pay back can be huge. If you enjoy it, doesn't matter if you find lots of gold.

I swing a metal detector, looking for old coins, tokens, etc... I am sure most people think I am nuts. I find it relaxing and rewarding.

that is great! I think I will try my luck. What have you found with your metal detector? Was it expensive?

Always find something. It's amazing how much stuff people lose. Haven't hunted as much this year as I like. Have found a few decent coins, tokens and a little jewelry. Entry level detectors run a couple hundred bucks. Mine would be 1,700 or so to replace.

Cpd520,.... I too do a little detecting, although I'm after Republic of Texas stuff and Civil War artifacts. Been detecting for about 28 years. I've hunted up in around Virginia so any times, it's like a second home, as well as many other states where activity occurred. I ALWAYS detect with permission from property owners.

I grew up in the Yukon Territory (the Klondike) and we could literally use a saucer and pan almost any creek and find colour (gold). When I got married, my husband was from England and had only read about the Klondike. We took my parents motorhome for our honeymoon and I showed him how to pan in the creeks and rivers we camped beside for the 2 weeks we were out. He was so impressed and excited that you could find gold almost everywhere there. We brought back a couple of small nuggets and lots of dust to make into a necklace for his mom. Panning is a lot of fun, especially if you do it more for recreation than to make a living.

Wife and I have been at it for about 4 years. We enjoy getting out anytime we can.

Spent the winter in Q and work several of the local club claims as well as some of the GPAA claims.

Taking a couple weeks around the Fourth and going to Libby Mt.
Wife and I will spend most of our time on the Creeks While everyone else Sits around.
